strikes in kenyan high schools
July 21, 2008 - 05:40 AM

s society losing it?First it was university students who were always on rampage.....for a good reason....for genuine reason. Then came mungiki.....the the chingororo......then the sabaot land defence......and now high school kids!!what is happening!!?Ok..come to think of it, can somebody help me get to know the person who suggested the removal of the cane from Kenyan schools....please!He seems to be the cause of all this.Kenya is not USA.Kenyan kids fear beatingsssss. You tell him something with the cane in your hand....i tell you, it's magical.

seriously,Can't the government consider returning the old system of dealing with disgruntled elements in schools-caning them?It has always worked.
When these kids strike, where is the deputy head master....who is apparently in charge of discipline in the school?
Someone in the government was heard suggesting that the police should deal with this boys and girls.......they are under 18!!they are still minors...They dont even have IDs!!!are we coming up with a new law......everything to be dealt with by the police? You send your son and he refuses to go....the next thing...call the police!!!!
Eventually things will get out of hand if something is not done sooner.

My suggestion:Let the society be a brother's keeper like it used to be.During our days...my mother could be any body's mother...and therefore if she saw me mess, she would take action just like my own mother would have done.Let the society play that collective responsibility.
Parents should be strict on their children when it comes to discipline. If it means caning them....go ahead and whip them thoroughly ....but of course with love...knowing they are children.
What do you think should happen to avert future strikes by any group....coz tomorrow it might be primary schools!?
Am told the cane was abolished coz children have rights.Of course they do!!And one of the fundamental rights is the right to correct up-bringing!This is not being done in kenya at the moment! They have a right to discipline.....lest they start going with guns in class. What do you think!!!!!!!

Hey!!!!!

I see where you are coming from but i totally disagree with you, i dont believe that discipling kids necessarily means whipping them or canning them. I was born in Kenya but only lived there only 3 yrs of my life, many of my cousins and myself were spanked at times (of course at that time we found it particularly funny, quite the opposite of what my parents were getting at). But later my mum found that talking to us and grounding us or taking our possessions worked much better than hitting us. So i dont believe that hitting does any good in fact it harms the child physically and mentally.

As for high school strikes occuring in kenya i dnt know what is happening there, but i do think students do have rights, so they must have a pretty good reason to protest (unless of course they are abusing that right, which i dont know).

Anyway thts my view on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bye
Ayan
