Gender Equality: Its Development And Its Future

Gender equality is relatively a new thing, only introduced about 100 years ago (compared with other ideas and philosophies, this is very new). It started when during the two World Wars, men were sent off to the battlefields, leaving jobs open at home. Employers started to employ women at that time and very soon, womens started to work at many places in any industries. Fast forward 100 years, women can now vote, have more liberty in society and can be independent from men, an idea frowned upon 100 years ago.
We still have a long way to go before true gender equality exists. Until these problems are resolved, gender equality will be a dream.
1. Women receiving less pay than men at work
2. Open discrimination of women under the law
3. Lack of women in government institutions
Some of the above matters will never be resolved in our lifetime due to cultural and religious problems, but I am sure that one day, men and women will be on equal footing at work, at home and in society. It is the core of the human spirit to perservere and fight to get to the ultimate goal. Women of today has fought to gain equal footing at work and in society. Some met success while others did not. This is only the beginning of the fight that begun 100 years ago. Look at how much these extraordinary people have accomplished in 100 years! I am sure that the next 100 years will be as fruitful and exciting, if not more, than the last 100 years.
