Greehouse Development Rights: a climate change policy built around third world development
July 16, 2008 - 01:34 PM

If you are interested in sustainable development and concerned about the ongoing pointing of fingers at developing nations concerning the division of responsibility for climate change,

Check out Greenhouse Development Rights. It's the latest burden sharing program as proposed by EcoEquity.

Basically, GDR's are the first program to take third world development into FULL consideration, all the while proposing a feasible (but challenging) GLOBAL response to climate change.

Watch the presentation here:

Or download the full PowerPoint (with great notes) and explore it yourself.

Extremely interesting from their definitions of previously ambiguous language utilized by the UN, to the development threshold drawn 125% above the global poverty line (people have a right to DEVELOPMENT!).

It's generous and fair, and does not hold anyone living below the development threshold responsible or accountable for climate change. Technology and money will percolate from North to South with this new plan, leaving the third world free to continue along its developing road.

Very pertinent to developing nations and the people in them. If this policy receives the attention it deserves, it may just take off.

Spread the word, friends.

This is a very good post, i just wish the international body could come to Nigeria and visit the Niger Delta region, that is the oil producing states in the country.

The enviroment is in serious climatic problem and if care is not taken there might be problem of survival in such areas in future.

the need to save the climate is very very necessary.
