Eliminating Poverty

Poverty is mainly brought about by a lack of ways of providing basic needs for oneself and the family. It affects both the poor and the rich, the rich because people look up to them as the people bearing the solutions to their problems.
If I had the power to eliminate poverty, first, I would create awareness to the people affected. In collaboration with the government, I would send a team around the communities to teach the local ways they could improvise on things around them. For example, in arid and semi-arid areas people could dig boreholes so that they could have water to irrigate their crops and therefore have some produce. They could use some of this food for personal consumption and sell the rest for money they could use later.
Secondly, I would turn to investors. I would especially persuade investors from other countries to come and invest in my country. They would do this by building factories and other businesses and thereby recruiting labor from the local community. By doing this, the people may earn money with which they meet their needs satisfactorily.
Poverty is also brought by a lack of education. Education prepares people for the future by enabling them to put to practice what they have learned, through working and hence getting money. Building schools will enable the children of the community to be provided with the education they need. Through the education you explain to the children right from that tender age the causes of poverty and ways they can prevent them. This information would keep ringing in their minds and get them to do something to prevent that situation.
Telling them that education provides knowledge, which they would use to get jobs in future, could also make them want to learn more because they wouldn’t want to go through what their parents went through.
In urban areas the number of temporary structures erected and therefore the growth of slums depict poverty. In slum dwellings, there is very poor sanitation and security, that is, if there is any at all. Most of the houses are usually so poorly constructed that they do not prevent rain from entering during the rainy season. With all this in mind, I would approach the people and tell them to relocate to a designated area while permanent houses are built for them.

Hey,
Your solutions to global poverty are a good start, however, they disregard some of the fundamental issues that lead to poverty.
1. In many situations poverty is a result of violence and political instability. The people and governments are fully aware of the condition of their lives and nations. A major issue is that many of the governments of third world nations refuse to comply with development programs. Sending in a rogue team to Sudan or another unstable third world nation, would not only be a waste of time and reasources, but could lead to many lost lives. For us to begin to resolve the issue of poverty I belive we must work to achieve democratic and stable governments in the poorest of nations. These governments must be willing to work with first world nations to end corruption and violence. After this we can work on the development of specific areas within these nations.
2. Persuading investors to a nation will never work. Investors will flock to wherever they can make a profit. The only way to achieve this is by developing a country to the point where companies feel that it is in their best interest to invest.
3. Again education can only commence in nations that are safe and economically prosperous to accomidate for this expensive practice.
4. I think they know that education will benefit them.
5. I don't think these people want to live in the slums.
Anyway thats my take on the issues surrounding global poverty.
Thanks.

Eliminating poverty is a difficultt thing because when there is a growth in economy, the gap between the poor and the rich widens.
