[Poll] Vegans, Vegetarians, or Meat-eaters??

If there is one thing that makes the 21st century stand out in terms of diet and nutrition, its the growing debate (and divide) over the best diet for our bodies.
Is it vegan, vegetarian, meat-eater...or how I like to identify myself as, "OMNIVORE"- (meat and vegetable eater)???
Please post your comments, a diversity of opinions are welcomed!
Which diet is the healthiest diet?
Vegan
(0 votes for 0%)
Vegatarian
(3 votes for 42.86%)
Meat-eater
(1 votes for 14.29%)
Omnivore
(3 votes for 42.86%)

hello, you forgot something else. for example Muslims being meat-eaters do not eat everything, not any kind of meat, and even not any kind of fish. Just halal food, including meat (selected meat ans prepared according special rules and procedures)
so it is more complicated. as I see

Hey Peace2Peace, I was going to add Halal and Kosher eating practices, but because they are generally associated to a very specific subset of the global population (i.e. those who are Muslim or Jewish) I didn't think the poll would accurately represent the number of people who actually eat Halal or Kosher foods compared to the general population.
But thanks for the comment it was greatly appreciated!

I think it's not necessarily a question of one diet being healthier than others.
Halal and Kosher food are something that has to do with religion.
One diet may not be healthier than the others. I think it's related to your personal philosophy (some think that it's not ethical to eat animals or they simply don't have the heart to do it).
I used to be a vegetarian for 4 years (and even now I eat meat very rarely), because I kept thinking that what I had on my plate used to be alive once. Now, I'm trying hard not to think about it.
I've returned to being a meat-eater (occasionally), as my mum used to tell everybody why I didn't eat meat and then they looked at me like not eating meat was the weirdest thing they had ever heard and they kept preaching to me how unhealthy that was - let's call it social pressure.
But I can't say I'm any healthier now than I was then or before I've turned into a vegetarian (before those 4 years, I used to eat meat every day). It all has to do with having an equilibrated diet - it doesn't matter where you take your vitamins and minerals from (meat or vegetables), as long as you take them. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I am no scientist and have never done lab tests, but, from what I've seen, it'd seem vegetarians win.
My grandmother used to be very ill when she was an omnivore. She had high pressure problems, heart problems, etc. One day she began the transition to vegetarian diet and nowadays she's very healthy for her age.
It definitely helped in her case, but I wouldn't be able to know what it'd be like mass-wise.
Although beef is not environmentally friendly. Hum.

ioanap that is an interesting point. I guess with increases in the world's population, and invariably the demand for food resources, people around the world are facing a shortage on food and therefore ensuring a healthy diet for everyone (whether vegetarian, meat-eater, or other) should be a top priority! Thanks for sharing your opinions.

FaerieGirl, I guess the real issue with the right diet is largely based on what your body best responds to. Even though all humans are created equal we don't have the exact same genetic make-up and as a consequence we tend to respond to our environment somewhat differently. For me, the a balanced omnivore diet works for me with an emphasis of protein that is either meat or non-meat derived, but for my mom it is completely the opposite because she could survive on bread alone. It guess it comes down to balance like ioanap suggested above and our personal physiological make-up.
