[Poll] Corruption Breeds Child Labour
June 15, 2008 - 07:31 AM

In Africa, corruption is one of the biggest deterring factors to development and violation of human rights. Imagine if all the donations and funds that are sent to Africa were to be channeled towards addressing the purpose for which they are granted (fighting Poverty, HIV/AIDS, Making/Repairing Roads, Helping Orphans to acquire Basic Education, among others), we wouldn't have desperate children being manipulated by selfish individuals and Organizations, We would not have Street Children, who at times go with out a meal, and there wouldn't be early child school drop outs and the like!

My appeal to all those leaders and administrators who are engaged in diverting resources meant to help the needy and to improve the social well being of the majority to stop this practice!

I agree with you Wanasolo24. In my country and the rest of South East Asian countries as well, or I can say in almost all developing countries, corruption is a very very serious problem. It breeds child labor and it causes poverty. As a matter of fact, just like what you have mentioned, the donation fund is hardly go into the pocket of the needy but rather become a great profit of those corrupted powerful persons.

To deal with this or to eliminate corruption, policies makers or senators play an important role. Amend the existing laws or make a new law which clearly states the punishment of committing corruption, enforce law and law implementation are thought to be good ways to deal with corruption.

However, in a corrupted world, almost all sectors in a country which include parliamentary system, media, police..etc are being controlled by the corrupted government. This enables the policies makers to make good and effective policies to really able to anti-corruption.

i agree with you. It is only in Africa where corruption is taken as a pride. When Mr. John Githongo-an anticorruption tzar un earthed a scndal in Kenya, he was said to be against his community.
we have tribalised corruption and forgotten the devastating effects it has ion development. Poverty is sky rocketting and the gap between the haves and havenots is widening. Whenever we converge in places of worship, we all ask God to bless us not knowing how best we ridicule Him.
Children go with empty stomachs yet we call ourselves leadrs, women walk for distance in labour pain annd later die, yet we call ourserlves patriots. It is a shame that our leaders have privatised corruption to themselves
