Mugabe threatens war if he loses

this guy just does not want to accept that the people of Zimbabwe do not want him.
http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/24D5A285-2C9E-4254-8293-74043DF91EAF.htm
"Robert Mugabe, the Zimbabwean president, has said that the country's war veterans are ready to fight to prevent the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) from taking power.
As the June 27 presidential run-off looms, Mugabe was quoted in the local press on Friday as telling supporters at a rally on Thursday that he did not want the country to go to war but that Zimbabwe would never be ruled by the MDC.
The Herald newspaper quoted him as saying: "It will never happen that this land which we fought for should be taken by the MDC so that they can give it back to our former oppressors, the whites."
He said the war veterans told him "this country was won by the barrel of the gun and should we let it go at the stroke of a pen? Should one just write an X and then the country goes just like that?"
The 84-year-old also warned voters against making a "mistake".
Mugabe took power as a guerrilla leader in 1980, liberating the country then called Rhodesia, from British rule.

Mugabe is a sick man, unfortunately his supporters appear to be as sick as he is.

As quoted "It is crucial for the interests of both Zimbabwe and Africa that the upcoming elections are free and fair,"
does anyone actually think that its going to be fair?, people are going to be terrified of war so what are they going to do.. well they are going to vote for Robert Mugabe because they cannot afford for have war in their country, I honestly think he should be stoped.

Well i don't subscribe to the War idea and bloodshed.
When the opposition say "we will not accept a mugabe victory" what is that?where does it leave the country. Both sides not accepting defeat what will we do?
To some people here when the opposition says"what we would like to tell mugabe today is please go peacefully. If you dont go peacefully we will remove you violently" what is that isnt that a declaration of war. The fun thing is iots not a big deal to some imperialist agents here!
We should also have a thread here whci says MDC threatens war WHEN it loses! and see how many will respond.
War is never the best option ask Bush and his axil of evil and othey will tell you that. In as much as we want to defend our hard won independence we should not and will not resort to war.I think the statement of President Mugabe was used to empasis the point that we should defend our soverignity and independence no matter the cost.
Anyway there is no need to worry for Zanu PF will win the runoff and spite the imperialists and their puppets in the opposition!

there is no free and fair election to be had - Mugabe is frustrating democracy at every turn.
of course Dykaio is reverting to type - trying to draw moral equilancy - it is such a joke.
Mugabe does everything possible to mainuplate the democratic process - and then says that even if he loses an unfair election he will start a war.
and somehow this is similar to the opposition who is being repressed suggesting that if their legitimate democratic rights are not respected that they will resist.
As JFK said "those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable."

Fro the JFK quote you gave are you trying to justify the violence of the opposition? While at the same time try to paint MUgabe black for the acts of violence his supporters allegedly commits. i find this to be absurd.
You say Mugabe is manipulating the electoral process and i will say the West is also doing the same.Using NGO's and food as a campaign tools is it justified?Care was doing it also USAID!
Now British and her Allies are threatening more sanctions to add on top of the one already there if their prefered candidate loses the election isnt this a form of election manipulation.People will vote for the opposition not necessarily they want it but are scared of the sanctions.
Already they existing sanctions has made the life of the people difficult and this has tilted the election playing in favour of the opposition, people are now playing "stomach politics" and therefore the election will not be free and fair because of these outside interferences especially from the West
The sanctions must be removed and then we can start talking about other things.

Robert Mugabe is 84 years old. He's surprisingly capable of ruling Zimbabwe with an iron fist at his age. If he wins, the country will still be unstable and if he loses the country will be in war. Not much of a choice here.

I also feel that placing sanctions on a country is a bad idea. Because it affects the people the most. And its counter-productive and harmful and brings down the economy and to recover it will take years and years.

The sanctions issue empasise the regime change agenda of the West.
Do you think they care about the masses? currently we are under sanctions and who is suffering?
Sanctions are a weapon in the hands of the West to try and manipulate the election result to reflect THEIR will and not of the people of Zimbabwe.
Remember the words "lets make the economy scream" and this ultimately lead to an uprising against the sitting government and their agenda would have fulfilled.
These people they dont care about us if they do as they claim let them remove the sanctions we are currently under.
This will not work here.........

IS it that people do not want him or the West do not want him?
What can we say for a man who is labelled a "threat to the US foreign policy".
The West will not stop at anything until this man goes and are prepared to do anything including sanctions, sponsoring the opposition against the law of the country etc to distablise the coountry.
I will quote President Mbeki who said "Great Britain does not limit the period during which a person may hold the position of Prime Minister, to say nothing about the hereditary position of Head of State," he said.
"I have never heard of international observers visiting the United Kingdom verifying whether any British election was free and fair," Mbeki said.
Nelson Mandela, Nobel Peace Prize winner, during the International Women's Forum (2003) said
"If there is a country that has committed unspeakable atrocities in the world, it is the United States of America. They don’t care for human beings," he said.
"Who are they now to pretend that they are the policemen of the world, the ones that should decide for the people of Iraq what should be done with their government and their leadership?" he said.
Where there is Iraq put Zimbabwe and get wisdom.

Mugabe wants to cling to power until he is 86. At the moment, 84, he would stand trial at the hague for crimes against humanity - need I explain the crimes?
At 86 one is considered 'too old to stand trial'. Do you remember what happened toMuhammed Suharto of Indonesia?
Unfortunately, it will be too late for Zimbabweans to pick themselves up at that time - 2010!
Therefore, what is wanted is to vote Mugabe out of power, and let the right people build Zimbabwe economically, morally etc.

Thats rubbish allow the due prcess to take its course and numbers are in favour of the President.
A man cannot runaway from the struggle because of age.Mugabe is fighting for total emancipation of not only Zimbabweans but all oppressed people of the world.Thats why the West cannot stand him noone has stood up against them the way he has done.Thats why they hate him with a passion.
People are going to vote him back in office come june 27 regardless of the wishes of the West.
Hague is not even an issue for it has no juristriction in Zimbabwe we did not rectify the treat that set up the hegue remember?
the total emacipation and empowerment of the power and safe guarding our independence and soverignity is the issue that keeping Mugabe from retiring he is on recording saying that!

They say its easy to talk the talk but hard to work the work,
What i would tell my fellow neighbours[i`m from namibia] is to have some courage and stand steadfast.
Its hard not to follow the leader that has control over everything, your job ,house, health services ,the saftey of your family, to turn your back on him would be like ,grabing a snake on its head[ a very poisoners snake at that]
But the world is with all of you, in this this time of uncertainty.
