Britain`s war on knife crime, maybe African nations should follow suit!
June 7, 2008 - 07:57 AM

In my opinion the Britain is enforcing a policy that will benefit the world at large.

Admist all policies we dont agree with that the Britains put in place, theres no doubt that African nations should follow this example.

Obviously this wiil create a lot of debate over financial funding in African countries.

Crime is like the norm in our African countries and gangs the lifestyle that young peolpe want to live and then theres violence which is perfectly normal.

Gorvenmants fork out huge sums of money on defence and police eg City police in Namibia, that prooves to be successfull on many ocasions but fails to prevent crime or young people from commiting knife crimes.

Maybe we can learn a thing or two from the super power.

True, we nee dto do something about crime, but until we tackle the root of the problem, whether or not these "British measures" will make an impact is yet to be determined.

If you ask me, personally I believe that the factors surrounding crime in our African countries are different to those surrounding crime in Britian therefore our approaches should be different. I believe the factors surrounding crime in Africa are strongly interlinked with poverty, which is in turned strongly interlinked with greedy/bad political leaders. These issues would need to be ironed out from the top in order to achieve significant results. That's my take on this.

Ending crime in many African nations is viewed as currently impossible. Before you can begin to rehabilitate nations, which would include lowering crime; democracy and stable governments are a necessity. In some African nations, such as South Africa, getting tough on crime is entirely possible. South Africa is one of the only African nations with a stable democratic process, therefore they can focus on resolving many domestic issues.

The have a functioning democracy, which is relatively free of significant corruption that hinders the system. There are many nations within Africa who do not currently have such a functioning system.
