Get the discussions started!

Next academic year I'll be heading an intercultural relations organization, and one of my goals is to get these students from over 40 different countries to start a discussion group, just like this. I haven't been able to think of a way of motivating them or how to get this project started, so I was wondering if any of you had any ideas of how to do this. I would really appreciate some feedback.

Well, basically it is a group of college students, from different countries as well as US students interested in international studies including Middle Eastern Politics, Latin American Studies, Asia Pacific Studies, and students interested in Non-violence. My aim is to get these students to start a either debates, or "chats" like these, so that both students from abroad may learn about American perspectives and vice-versa. But am having problems finding motivations for these students to become interested in this kind of dialogue. See the problem is that many of the international students are pretty apathetic because this is not there field of study, but they would be the source of knowledge since in many cases one student may be representative on campus of a whole nation. What could I do to motivate these students?
