I heard today about a YouTube post about a Chinese girl broadcasting her unsympathetic views towards
the victims of the Sichuan earthquake. The video has already been viewed 205,112 times.

The video is all in mandarin with mandarin subtitles, so I have provided a very rusty translation.
I just wanted to gather views about her video and your reactions to it. I personally cannot believe
someone could be so cold hearted about such a disaster and loss of life. However, is it possible
someone set her up to do this?
I heard a rumor that the girl in the video has been arrested by the Chinese government.
Anyway, here is the translation for those of you who cannot understand mandarin. It is in 2 seperate
posts because of the 400 word count restriction.
Hello all my Sichuan friends affected by the disaster.
I am an ordinary young girl from Liao Ning.
I wish to express my opinion about the Sichuan earthquake. Do I feel sympathetic about the
earthquake? No. But happy? No. However I feel somewhat pleased about the earthquake.

I saw everything about the earthquake on T.V. However I did not choose to watch this, it’s just
that whenever I turn on the T.V., there is coverage the deaths and injuries. I don’t wish to watch
this coverage all the time but I have no choice as this is the only thing on T.V. It’s all over
the internet as well. Do you think we have nothing else to read but the disaster in Sichuan?
People of Sichuan, have your eyes all been clouded by the earthquake rubble? All those people
trapped in the rubble, you should stay where you are. Don’t bother crying out for help. If you do
cry out, I don’t blame you because you are living in a poor geographical location in china. People
in India are affected by the earthquake too, why do you force yourself to be in the same situation?
You deserve it.
The earthquake is not big enough, if it was big enough it should have caused the entire ground to
flip upside down. If it wasn’t for you and your earthquake, then we wouldn’t have to prey and
give moments of silence for you and in addition give donations.
21st May is a good date. Many people have decided to get married in 2008. Now we have to hold our
silence for you, and decide whether to get married or not. You see, you have given people bad luck.

How many of people have died due to the earthquake? Only a few. China’s population is very large,

why does Sichuan have the ability to do this? I guess the prediction of the earthquake was
ridiculous.

This Youtube video text is so bizarre! I suspect it is a hoax of some kind. No one in their right
mind takes pleasure in a natural disaster which destroys entire cities and kills thousands.
Having said this, however, Tiggers and others should not forget that there is other news in China
and the world. I wonder to what extent the aggressive pro-Chinese demonstrations during the Olympic
torch relays through foreign countries has affected world sympathy for the earthquake victims.
The incessant chants of "Tibet belongs to China" and the intimidation of pro-Tibetan demonstrators
left an impression of a country whose youths can be easily manipulated to insult victims of state
oppression and further the foreign policy of an undemocratic regime.
From my vantage point here in Japan, it seems there has been an outpouring of aid and concern for
the earthquake victims in China and people have already forgotten the Olympic Torch brouhaha.
I think it is important, however, that we don't forget there are 100's of political prisoners
sitting in Chinese labor camps at this very moment. They are sitting there in inhumane conditions
because they spoke up for displaced farmers who had their land stolen by the local government,
posted news information from open sources on the internet, protested the abuse of China's one child
policy, and many other transgressions the Chinese regime has termed "subversion of the state."
Amnesty International has a list of these political prisoners. Let's also keep this man-made tragedy
in our mind as we sympathize with the people of China over this natural tragedy.

I don't know...
There are plenty of very strange opinions here in the US. You can find them regarding religion,
race, politics, culture, nationality - whatever. A lot of them (as fas as I can tell) are "radical"
because there is some underlying problem with the person with the opinion. Maybe their life has
been difficult, or maybe they're reacting to something completely unrelated.
This girl (from the text I've read) is trying to be intentionally cruel - and sadly, I don't find
this particularly surprising. The real question in my mind is this: why did she make the post?
In any case, regardless of the politics or whatever, my heart goes out to the people of Sichuan
province

That youtube girl was out of line and ignorant as far as im concerned! She had no bussiness talking
about those people espcially in there time of need and desperation! What kind of person are you to
talk about people so blatently and rasicst as she did?! I never even knew there was a earthquake in
Sichuan but if I would have known my prayers and donations would have been sent out to them asap.
Because if something like that ever happend to me I would want someone to show the same compassion
to me as I would to them! God bless the people of Sichuan!

Yes, my translation is legitimate with no exaggeration. Anyway, one has been posted with English
subtitles so if anyone is interested, they can view that. If you are still skeptical, you should
read the comments people have made about the video.
