Country of Birth allows your Rights?
July 6, 2003 - 09:55 AM

Think about this: Whichever country your mother births you in could decide you fate. Now here's a fact; I was lucky enough to have my family migrate from Europe to America, therefore making me not a peasant/farmer, but a well educated young lady.
It is horrible to think that even before a birth, one's own destiny might have been chosen for them as a result of the country they are native to. Hopefully this coinsidense doesn't restrict people from achieving whatever they desire, because faith, no one should have that restraint.
What do you think? Can human nature and a determined mind overide all the limitations set by a counrty you were birthed in?

the human
July 22, 2003 - 07:46 AM

i don`t think human when start to live on earth.. though of borders.. or of limit to get children..
i think we have no right to control the new life.. let people have children.. and who don`t want .. just don`t have..
the point is all about..
re arranging of rescorces..
why there is some frims control even us inhaving a limited no. of children..

i hope we can look tot he uman as human not as apers.. not as number but member..
i hope we look to the human as human even he don`t have adress or name..

No, you decide you destiny, along with God

I have rethought this. Not everyone is born in a well off country, but you can still have a wonderfull life, even if there are some hardships. You, along with God, control your destiny. Just because you live someplace should not limit you. Tryin as hard as you can to achieve your dreams can bring anyone out of a difficult situation, even poverty.

A one-world nationality doesn't sound like a dream...it sounds more like a nightmare. Although I will agree that the world is certainly not perfect, I don't think a one-world power OR the abolishment of private ownership will help matters any. Public ownership of land goes directly against the only holy thing this side of heaven and about the only thing worth living and dying for, that is, freedom.

And, I will disagree and say that being born in a particular place does place very rigid limitations. Socioeconomic mobility to downtrodden individuals is quite difficult to manage even in the United States, the most free country in the world. Throughout history, the vast majority of people have had almost no say-so in how their life was to be lived. Even in the United States, until 75 years ago, many people had absolutely no ability to increase their quality of life. They did nothing but live from one day to next, desperately trying to survive. The saga of Jurgis in The Jungle was not fiction, but rather the existence of millions of people of the time period. The majority of the people in the world find theirselves in a similar situation, even in 2003. Thank you.

I agree with the previous comment - say you're a woman born in a country that restricts the freedoms of women. You'll have many more obstacles to overcome in order to do what you wish, as compared to living in a country with more freedoms. I think that people have to do the best with what they have, but like with affirmative action, it's really not a level playing field. Citizens of some countries have a net advantage in some senses - they have a better chance of getting a proper education and being able to follow their dreams.

One of the questions about sustainable development is how to ensure that development can provide more of a level playing field in terms of education and so on. I think there's been a progression towards increasing opportunities, especially with the help of IT, but it's still nowhere near enough.

With populations continuing to increase, though, we're going to have to find space for all these new people, and resources to feed and clothe them! That'll place huge strains on the concept of 'nationality' and belonging to one particular country.
