i always believe in the power of the youth to change the destiny of developing countries. however it involves a lot of skills and resources to make an ordinary youth into an active & participating youth. it takes exposure to issues and a forum for discussing issues that can make them responsible citizens. this requires states to invest in youth oriented projects.

the Bible says the joy of the youth is in their strength.
I want to agree with the contributors we as young people have a big role to play in the development of our nations. We have the strength and the energy. What we ned is to channel that strength to good use.
Liberation struggles for the independence of many African countries were led by oung people that was for political independence now for economic independence we need a generation of young people who will take the bull by the horn and fight for total emancipation and development of our people.

I believe youth have much to contribute. Innovative and adaptable, youth are usually the ones capable of making profound changes to society it self. Just look at the back pages of history books...
However, though our era is one of many thresholds - our generation is stuck. I find it ironic that there are so many civil wars and combatant occupations ocurring simultaneously around the world and we are unaware. Rather, we choose to remain ignorant because it serves us better. I believe we're stuck in oblivion and where change ought to be implemented and action ought to be taken, there is no space; there are not enough voices or eyes and ears that are interested enough to push these situations forward.
Above all, with all of this xenophobia and "war on terror" stuff the media is selling in the developed world... I believe the incentive for change is limited. Of course, there's much talk about development, but let's be real. Simple donations to "non-profit" organizations that are owned by leading capitalists isn't going to give refuge and salvation to displaced peoples, is it?
We don't all have to be altruistic, but with the internet and with social networking mediums - I think we're at a point where we could be doing profound things... but we aren't.

I believe it was Benjamin Constant who had said that there are two types of liberty. There is public liberty and individual liberty and as the world becomes more modern, we are distributing more value in individual liberty. This means we value private property and private life.
According to his thesis, public liberty cannot co-exist with individual liberty sufficiently, so we are faced to choose one or the other. I don't know if that's necessarily true in this era, however, I believe we've bought into the notion.
The more we look inwardly and serve our individual needs, we lose a sense of collective identity.
However, please note that when I say "we", I am referring to those of us living in the upper echelons of global society. I think more in Canada and USA, it is evident that buying into pop culture serves our sense of identity. Yet, we forget that pop culture is an idea that is sold to us - advertised. And as we buy into it, we don't gain anything any different than the next consumer. We buy into pre-examined and pre-planned 'attractive' advertisement schemes. The issues being brought to the table are at the forefront because businessmen (like Rupert Murdoch) have seen the incentive in selling the issue.
We are smart youth. We ought to realize that nothing is what it seems. We ought to realize, yes - we are young. We've been here only a decade or two and... well, the world works a certain way. And it is time we wake up and face the facts, collectively.
Otherwise... otherwise.
