Marvel vs. Manga

Hey! I'm a student from the US and i was wondering...
What do you think about manga? Do you prefer more realistic cartooing/ comics or do you like the stylized style which is manga?
I personally prefer a more realistic style- as an artist, that's what i aim to illustrate... what do you think?

heh - well Stan Lee is a friend of the family - I love all his creations. I was sitting next to him the first time he saw the Spider-man movie.
I am meeting with an Editor over at marvel in a a few weeks to pitch ideas ; - )
but my favorite character is my own - my comic has been a top 100 book for the last 3 years. I don't want to identify it publically but send me a personally message and I'll direct you to it.

Manga!Manga! Manga!
i know i'm the odd one out here, but i like manga (depending on the author/ artist, of course). maybe it's 'cause most of the main characters in manga are young, where as most marvel heroes are adults. it's like with manga, kids, teens, and young adults can be heroes and have adventures, too. also, Manga can be so expressive with such simple changes in the artistry. i also like tha when it comes to the heroes, many don't have super powers. thus, i can at least pretend that i'd be capable of acomplishing such amazing things. to be honest, i haven't read too many manga, but the ones i have read, i've loved. my favorites so far are Naruto, Shaman King, and .Hack. Marvel comics at time seem too...over dramatic. no offence. i can see how people would be attracted to them, but the costumes, capes, strange names, and 'required" gestures for superpowers to kick in have turned me away. not to mention spandex. i hate spandex. *
i just realized how critical i sound. please don't think i mean to criticize, i'm just trying to explain why i like manga. *

i think that's TOTALLY cool- that's why i posted this...
I just have a preference for marvel- but that doesn't mean that i don't like ALL manga. if you'd like, you chould check out Fullmetal Alchemist.
Like i said in my previous post, i love to draw people, so proportions is a thing that i notice. in manga, it seems to be overexaggerated sometimes, which is, to be honest, a little annoying for me. but Fullmetal's proportions are just right, so i think that it's great. Samurai Champloo is supposed to be really good too, but i haven't had a chance to read any...
i'm not trying to be critical either- i'm just stating opinion.
thanks a TON for posting that- i was curious how people would reply.

They are different styles of animation. Mangas tend to exaggerate features and actions thereby placing emphasis on them.

Manga hands down! i find Manga is more emotional -the story lines are awesome and they tend to have more twists an d turns and i loVe the style of drawing.
4get about proportions and stuff - it is art and art is beauty! Bleach, naruto Shippuden, FMA and Death note are my faves!

Hi dear, I'm Ruby from Vietnam. In fact, I love both manga and marvel, but if i have to choose, i will choose manga.I know that there's too many people will not agree with me about it.but with me, manga is favorite.i've learnt too many good things from manga. for example : the way to treat everyone, how can we act and not to hurt the person who loved...i 've learnt how to be polite, what's good, what's bad..i've learnt that war is not good, war just's only bring the pain to everyone...from manga, i've known i was born to be a good person..I'm a fan of manga.

I am 100% Marvel. No one cn beat Spirderman. I think the graphics are easier to relate to and I find Marvel fairly tame. I'm not afraid of leaving them lying around my nephew. Manga on the other had can get really violent and really rude. Nope definitely Marvel for me!

I think that Manga is better because it allows for more fantasy/make-believe physical appearances and it entertains the mind more than lets say the creations in Marvel comics.
For example I personally enjoy the whole Sailor Moon manga drawings simply because it displays a great extension of imagination and creativity with the costumes, colour choices and so much more. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chantelle Ennis-Charoo
