Confusion in Blogging in Mother Tongue!!
Feb 18, 2008

Tthe Spotlight says i can blog in my mother-tongue, for 21st Feb. I was really amused!! but How can I blog in Bengali, my mother tongue, since TIG does not translate in that language. Can anybody in the moderators help me??? Is blogging restricted into the 12 languages, TIG-Translatin available, or does it have any plans for inclusion. I'm dying to blog in my language!

Hey Debashree smile

Are you worried about readers who doesn't understand your mother tongue?

If not... just blog in bengali! big grin

If yes... ok... automatic blog's translation are not translating bengali, so, it's right, people who doesn't understand bengali... will not understand your posts.

BUT... its shouldn't be a problem. TIG members speak hundreds of different languages. And I'm sure there are a lot of members who speak bengali as mother tongue. By the way, Wikipedia says there are more of 230 millions of bengali speaking people in the world. That's a lot!!! :P

AND... the most important!: If I'm not wrong, blogs has a feature that enable to publish the same post in two different languages! So, if you wish, you can write a post in bengali and then, write the translated version into english, for example. Then... more TIG members can read you! (not everyone, since there are many TIG members who doesn't understand english)

As a final note, maybe you don't know it, but the current 12 languages of TIG were/are being possible because there are TIG members interested in volunteering as translators. So if you or other TIG member are interested in TIG in bengali, I encourage you to apply for the language translator volunter position and... make it happen! big grin

I hope it help! Sorry for mistakes, my mother tongue is spanish, not english! wink (and of course, I'm always blogging in my mother tongue)

Cheers!

Damián.

Thanks Damian, you know it helped a lot. so many things i's unaware.

again, what a great idea you gave...I was thinking of a TIG Bengali for quite some time...Actually there are many Students, in Bengal who are a little afraid of English still...Though they are computer savvy, but expreesing in English is still a taboo. It would be wonderful if they can access TIG Resources in Bengali.

I definitely want to volunteer as Language Translator!
