Linguistic and Cultural Diversity in Canada/La diversité linguistique et culturelle au Canada

My name is ÃãÇäí ÚÈíÏ, Amani Obeid, and I am a Muslim Palestinian. I immigrated to Canada nine years ago in 1993. Today, I am proud and blessed to be a Canadian. Many ask “Why?” The answer is simple: I live in a truly unique country. I live in country where multiculturalism is encompassed within a bilingual framework. Nowadays, many question the concept of the multiculturalism-bilingualism duo. I am one of millions who immigrated to Canada, and appreciate the numerous benefits of Canada’s multicultural diversity and bilingualism.
Canada blends its multiculturalism within its bilingual policy; where the French and English languages are used in harmony. Linguistic duality not only benefits Canada economically, but also socially. It promotes the use of the two official languages, which has a domino affect on other Canadians of different backgrounds and encourages them to continue preserving their own language. Therefore, Canada’s bilingual policy leads to multilingualism, which again, adds to its multicultural diversity. When I came to Canada, I only spoke Arabic and was eager to learn English when I entered the Canadian public school system. My parents continued to encourage my siblings and I to speak Arabic at home. Within a year, our household’s official languages were Arabic and English. However, I have always had a passion for the French language, which is why I enrolled in a French Immersion school in seventh grade. I continued throughout my entire high school career and have mastered the French language. Today, I can proudly say that I am officially trilingual; speaking ÇááøÛÉ ÇáÚÑÈíøÉ (Arabic), English as well as le français.
Conclusion? La politique bilingue est un succès.
It has been ten years since I have immigrated to Canada. I have benefited greatly from immigrating to Canada. I became trilingual, speaking Arabic as well as the two official languages of Canada. Now, I have friends from Mexico, Trinidad, the Ukrain and Russia. I have become a person who truly appreciates Canada’s multiculturalism and bilingualism. Vive le Canada bilingue et multiculturel!

interesting.
i think its very lucky of you to live in a multi-language zone.
u can switch channel when bored
have more resource to bring ur thoughts into words
and playing with words would be more fun.
im learning arabic. Its still very broken unfortunately.=P
btw, Canada is certainly unique as all other countries, but when it comes to multi-bilingual-ism there are a couple more in the world like Switzerland(France, German), Netherland( it think they speak both Dutch and German there),Luxembourg (France, Dutch i think but not sure), Sweden(Swedish and some Norwegian),...

you know what: this is very cute, I should say that i applause your bilingual email.
you know what: you make me proud of who, where and how we are.
and you know what: i'm a malagasy citizen, living in Canada, speaking both english and french, trilingual (add malagasy) and i actually live in New Brunswick the only official bilingual province in Canada.

You guys are quite an impressive bunch. I would venture to say that I understood everything written here, but I'm not going to humiliate myself with my sad French. I really admire Canada's bilingualism- I've never understood why there was so much opposition to it in the US. (Our second language would be l'espangol, pas le francais.) (de francais?) My excuse for my poor French is that we don't start languages until really late in school- 7th grade in my district, but not much, so 7th and 8th grade together officially count as only one year.

Yes... living in a country that supports bilingualism and multiculturalism is good.
It's so cool that you're trilingual amaniobeid.

Wow, I didn't realize that I would get so many positive replies. This is absolutely EXCELLENT.
A big thank you goes out to all who commented. Keep up the voices.
As for French Immersion, I started out in Grade 7. The program I enrolled is therefore called the "Extended French Program". The French Immersion program begins at the Kindergarden and Grade 1 level. I wasn't in Canada at the time, so, I couldn't enroll in it.
Anyways, I must say I love speaking three languages. It is an absolutely experience speaking with other people from different countries. I hope I will learn Spanish as well as German. They are the next two on my list, God willing.
Thanks for the encouragement; much appreciated!

Hey!
Interesting dialogue going on here between Jacob and Angel. Loool. Keep it up.
As for me, I just got back after my second exam from high school. Wow, biology was definitely the hardest test I have ever taken! Whew!
Tomorrow calculus, then I'm done!

Wish me luck. J'en ai besoin beaucoup!

Well... I'm guessing that you're taking it right now, or have already finished it, but if for some reason you haven't... bonne chance!

Yeah, I'm back. Sorry for not having replied earlier. I had my last exam yesterday, and it actually wasn't bad at all considering it was calculus and that I didn't really study for it.
WOOHOO! SCHOOL'S OVER!
YEAH
