Fertility
April 15, 2010 - 02:58 PM

I don't know if this topic has been discussed here yet, but I've been noticing lately a lot of people having problem conceiving, this is a bigger problem in the developed world, and many argue that this is because we've stuffed out bodies with so much unnatural foods and chemicals.

Any thoughts?

Well, i agree with you on that, but we must not for get that infertility is not just based on our health but our culture as well. In many cultures around the globe millions of men and women have trouble conceiving not just because of the foods we eat or the beverages we take in but because of activities that may cause hormonal imbalances.
For women: excessive exercise, increased amount of drugs to enhance fertility, tubal scarring from previous miscarriages, cysts on the ovaries, weight loss obsession, obesity and hereditary abnormalities and even psychological strain and stress.
While men: the consumption of too much alcohol, intake of prohibited drugs, and heavy smoking and being underweight. Malnutrition can cause infertility in men, obesity is another serious matter when it comes to male infertility and importantly what some men do not know is that too much heat exposure from constantly having hot baths and going into a Jacuzzi may cause infertility.
However we choose to look at it is good as long as solutions are found and time and effort is spent to educate persons on how to conceive in this day and age. nerdyG-Annnerdy

Perhaps its a worrying trend all over the world and not just the developed world. It could also be that because of advances in medical technology there are more reported cases of fertility related issues than earlier.
Still its a matter of concern, especially when mothers tell you it wasn't this bad in their age.
It must be increse in pesticides, and chemicals that mimic hormones that could interfere with fertility.
Because of increased workload and physical and mental stress there is a drop in fertility. Choosing to delay having children because of priorities towards your job also plays a big role.
There are so many factors.

Israel's generous policy towards IVF has turned it into a specialist in IVF babies. There are more fertility hospitals in Israel per capita than in any other country, and the highest per capita rate of IVF procedures, with over 25,000 procedures performed annually, with a success rate of 17% (2007 stats).

Thanks Hina,

I agree with you though not to some extent.

Most infertility results from physical problems in a man or woman's reproductive system.

# About 35 percent of all cases of infertility arise from problems in the man's system.

# About 35 percent arise from abnormalities in the woman's system.

# About 20 percent of the time, the man and woman both have fertility problems.

# In 10 percent of cases, no cause can be found.

# Age often increases the risk of infertility.

Infertility can be caused by poor sexual or lifestyle habits that are easily remedied. For example, the couple may be using a sexual lubricant that interferes with the survival of the man's sperm. Or, they may not be having sex often enough. Other easily treated illnesses or lifestyle habits that may contribute to infertility are:

# Heavy use of alcohol, tobacco or drugs.

# Starvation diets or anorexia in the woman.

# Tight underwear or pants in the man, which raises the crotch temperature and reduces sperm count.

# Stress. In a woman, this may cause her periods to be irregular. In a man, stress may reduce his sperm count.

Most of these problems can be resolved with medical treatment or lifestyle changes, such as wearing boxer shorts, avoiding a sexual lubricant, or trying some simple stress reduction methods such as physical exercise or relaxation techniques.

You're quite right on the statistics. However persons these days feel its embarrassing to speak of infertility and as such refuse to seek help. These persons no matter how accepting they may seem to be are always hurting and tend to feel insufficient and incomplete at times. I'm truly glad the issue has been raised, more attention needs to be placed on such issues. I am young and have yet to know if i am able to reproduce so I'd be glad to know that if i cannot that at least if the issue is out there then more extensive research is being conducted to correct such abnormalities or defects. nerdyG-Annnerdy

Fertility.......This is a very big issue..Fertility could result from some risky behaviors such as use of pills, abortions, immature reproductive tracts exposed to early sexual activities.

So it depends on the life history of the affected person.
