All seriousness aside, who are we to pass judgments on someone else’s politico-religious traditions?

Under-age
marriage picture wins UNICEF prize
The image hardly fits our idea of the happy couple's wedding picture - but this haunting photograph taken in Afghanistan graphically captures life for millions of girls given in marriage while under age.
It shows Mohammed, 40, with his new 11-year-old wife, Ghulam. Taken by US photographer Stephanie Sinclair, it was named Unicef Photo of the Year yesterday.
Some 60million girls worldwide are married while still under age, according to the children's rights agency.
A picture of a boy lifting bricks on his head in Bangladesh, showing the life of one of the millions exploited as child labour, came second. It was taken by GMB Akash.
And third prize went to one taken by German photographer Hartmut Schwarzbach. It shows nine-year-old Annalyn celebrating her birthday by jumping on a sofa in the rubbish dump in Manila, Philippines, where she has lived for three years.

More and more people know about that, yes !!We may reduce that by admonishing or propagandising. .But the culture, the conception and thought are difficult to change.
The goverment works ineffectively. For a country as Afghanistan, it needs more time to re-educate and change the society. People needs to face thousands of children have the same situation for the next decade.
Hopfully when the new generation becomes a leader in these countries, we will not have any fact like that.

Every society sets its own rules of what is the acceptable age for marriage. In the past, it was very normal for the people to marry very young .This culture included Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hinus, Budhists, etc. Also the laws in some western countries today consider 17 or 16 as "underage" or even children. The standard of who is an adult in some eastern societies depends on whether the person has reached puberty or not regardless of age.

I would say 11 years old is young in any culture - and is abhorrent in any event as an 11 year old girl cannot possibly be in a position to decide who she wants to spend the rest of her life with.
Palestinian - can you imagine yourself, at 11 years old, being able to really consider and decide your future in this way?

well, we had discussed the proper age to get married, its wasnt 11 or 12 years,
11 old is called a child, child is not fit to be married t all.
so child marriage needs to be discouraged at any cost!!!
