[Poll] Does Religion Matter?
December 11, 2007 - 04:03 AM
|
|
Not so very long ago, religion was intertwined with just about every aspect of public life. But things have changed. As society becomes increasingly diverse, it has also become increasingly secular. Religion has become a private matter, removed from public schools and other common arenas.
When it comes to politicians, there are those who wear their religious values for all to see, and then there are those who feel that religion has no place in politics whatsoever. Do you decide who you’ll vote for based on their values -- whether religious values, family values, or otherwise?
Join the debate
Would knowing about a candidate’s religious beliefs influence your decision to vote for them?
Do you find openly religious political candidates more trustworthy, or should religion and politics be kept separate?
Yes
(1 votes for 11.11%)
No
(8 votes for 88.89%)

Dear admin! Please Delete this TOPIC. Two contradictory questions and options like 'yes' and 'no'?
What is happening?

/bump Agreed. The question or answer should be redefined.

Think of this question, before the original poster will edit it himself, as a debate whether politics and religion must be intertwined and if yes then how; if no, why?
P.S. This thread will be moved to the Culture and Identity Boad where it fits better...

1-----Religions are mere ways and not the final goal.
2-----Spiritual maturity and eventually self-realization is the final goal.

To start off I will not respond to the poll because I find the question to be loaded. I do find religious candidates to be more trustworthy. Not that I completely trust any politician but I also find realigns should be separate from politics. Now also it should be noted that the power of religion is growing not shrinking. It would be interesting to note that over 85% of Americans belong to a church or religion of some sort. During the years following the civil war that number was in the teens.
