[Poll] Mass Media and its influences.

Mass Media influences people all over the world. We see it in our day-to-day lives and it is part of us. By living in North America, I've noticed that we allow mass media to influence us the most. Why do you think that is?
So I guess my question is:
How has mass media influenced you in your day-to-day lives?
In your culture?
In your society?
Has it changed the way you see things or the way you think?
Which mass media text do you think influences society the most?
Television
(4 votes for 50%)
Print (magazine ads, newpapers, etc)
(0 votes for 0%)
Radio
(1 votes for 12.5%)
Film & video
(2 votes for 25%)
Electronic (ex. email)
(0 votes for 0%)

Hello! Great question....
I believe that all of the options influence the way we see the world but subtle things effect us the most. Say if someone drove down the same road everyday to work and passed the same billboard advert. I think that those types of subliminal messages are particularly influential.
Peace out

Mass Media influence
For the beginning of Mass media revolution, Mass media has vast influence around the world; it is one of the decision makers of the world events. Without the mass media in this century the life will be difficult to communication and aware each side of the world as it is known today.
Thanks

It's no doubt that these days the media pulls our cultures by the nose and dictates the pace at which social thought evolves. Too bad, but thats it.
This is even more severe among youths. Young people are more on the learning, side of life. We are more willing to accept new 'en vogues" that the media shoves in our faces.
Fortunately, we also have an opportunity through edutainment to use this same media to shove the right things into each other's faces and make the media a good servent, instead of a bad master.

I think that Mass Media has had a positive effect on society, more than a negative.
By this I mean - without these forms of media, vast amounts of information, news and events wouldn't be reaching the farthest corners of the world! Because of mass dissemination of media, I'm able to know about the latest things in Johannesburg, Moscow and Toronto - especially at the speed that the Internet affords us.
Of course, there are a lot of negative effects of mass media - but I think those arise from the actual "content" (biased reporting, exploitation of women in rap music videos etc.) - it's not the "fault" of the mass media, but the content creators.

Mass media influence the developed country and not underdeveloped country in generally because of Poverty and poor infrastructure which led unable to use television, Radio,Video and Electronic, Uneducated among among the major group in underdeveloped country led print media not to influence them, and for those minority group who educated print media not reach at reasonable time, example a news paper which issued in 1january at region within a country can reach another region 3january up to 5days to urban areas due to poor infrastructures.

I voted that Television has the largest impact. Although I believe this is more applicable to my own society (North America) and not necessairly the case everywhere.
Although I think the internet is gaining increasing influence, I still think TV tends to be the most immediate and widely consumed medium - especially with cable television (24 hr news, etc).

How has mass media influenced you in your day-to-day lives?
In your culture?
In your society?
Has it changed the way you see things or the way you think?
Well personally in my life I grew up surrounded by it. It has done everything from made me feel bad about being me and confused me about what I am supposed to be, but also has showed me many aspects and different opinions so therefore I could create my own opinions on things. Mass media has backed up my beliefs as well as forced me to stand by them and to defend what I believe and think.
In my culture, the U.S., mass media has played a very large part from promoting corporations to awaring people of variouse events and news as well as setting our socially "acceptable" standards, the good and bad ones...
In our society it has led many things from what brands people buy, where they eat, where they shop, of course not every person does follow these advertisments and social expectancies, but it does influence us reguardless.
It has shown me what is expected what is "acceptable* and what is thought to be right by my society and many others...it has helped me to make my own desicions based on these such things, bith good and bad in many ways it has shaped who I am....
as well as many other people.

If i had not been listening to my radio, watching news on the television and having discussions with my friends online i would never have known the extent of corruption in my country. Each day i am made aware of my rights as a student, citizen of Kenya, consumer, and many more things. Most of all most of what i know is partly due to mass media.
Kenya is made up of more than 40 tribes all having their own language and culture. It is increasingly becoming difficult to extinguish which culture belongs to who.i can't remember most of my community's culture, which is really sad but at the same time i have been able to dispense with those that do me no good.
Mass media has made us almost equal. I may not have the money to have stylish clothes but i'm able to copy a design and look stylish too. My not being able to own a flat screen TV does not mean i will miss out on what is currently happening. i have my mobile radio, and the internet where the information is the same.
The best thing about Mass media for me is that i have my knowlegde to thank it for, from fashion, religion to environmental issues...it has given me the most valuable lessons ever.Through it i have come to realise that we are all human beings, all special in our diversity.I am me partly due to the media, and i know i am better this way than if i had not been able to access any mass media.
