Still on theRole of Corporations In Development

Most Corporations todays have realised the need to assit the civil society in their quest for sustainable development and social justice. This much is being demonstrated in Nigeria by the global system network providers. They do not only say it, they practicalise it through people-centred programmes which positively raise the poverty level of the people. However, it is pertinent to point out that, the gsm network providers can do more by incorporating a programme that will take care of non literate populace in Africa. while the efforts of the gsm providers are commendable, can we really pat the oil conglomerates at the back? This may be answered in the negative because, no matter the efforts to placate the people as a result of negative impact of oil exploration on the environment and the community, the oil conglomerates are not doing enough. this is partly responsible for the unfriendliness of the Niger Delta people to the activities of these oil firm.
It is hoped that Corporations working in Africa would do more to ensure that the civil society have access to good roads, portable water, hospitals etc so that they can see them more as friendly organisations that are taking care of teir needs. This becomes important becuase our governments are noit doing enough. It is time we assisted in making things happen for the good and comfort of our people not only in Africa but also all over the world where the governments seem utterly irresponsible.
