Share your views on Energy!

The Arab world has led for decades in the provision of traditional energy. In the face of growing innovation and the greening of energy sources, where does the Middle East fit and how must we adapt? What strategic measures can be taken to ensure the next generations will be able to compete in this shifting environment? Are we going to remain simply observers and adopters of arising replacement energy sources?

I think that US has the most provision of traditional energy and if u know, Iraq is the second provision of oil in the world and it is now under control of US
i think that mean whatever was the number of replacement energy sources, the huge countries will search for the traditional energy sources and war will not stop.
Finally the green power actually found, but it need a huge cost.

I think that no matter what, the Arab world is going to have to adapt to new energy sources. Even if people don't stop using oil for the good of the earth's health, oil and gas will eventually run out.
In order to prevent a complete economic depression of the Arab world in the future, they have to start moving in the direction of new technologies, like geothermal energy, solar energy, and the development of the hydrogen fuel cell. Most Arab places have large, open places where solar energy could be put to use with minimal effects on the environment and habitats. We do, however, still need an energy, like oil, that can be easily transported, and used in cars. That is where the use of hydrogen comes into place. The Arab world could use solar energy to split water molecules (hydrolysis), and use the hydrogen as a much cleaner source of energy.
There is always a source of income, the Arab world is just going to have to adapt sooner rather than later for the safety of their future economy.

Well in my opinion, it is not only a question of running of energy, it is a question and a problem that the Arab have today the chance resulting of the high income from the increasing prices of energy to transform themselves from a simple GAZ Stationary to a source of energy, and emphasize their position in the world map.so what is the best ways to use these oils returs? shall we save it or invest it? and where to invest it?
we are in an era of economic war, and a policy of the "last man standing" so i think the Arab countries should unify their efforts and try to think of how they will be able to ensure a safe future for their coming & Growing generations.
Energy is the blood of life, and we should ensure that we will be able to meet the growing needs of energy in the arab world, not to forget, the best suitalble and safest environmentaly way to use, produce, and save this energy.
As youth it is our right to ask for a safe future!

There was a tricky question during the Energy discussion, it was as I remember: Should Arab world be a source of energy or an exporter of it??
Although the two questions appears to be having same meaning especially in Arabic, but it is totally different. Here for example ,Yemen is exporting Gas and Oil since the early 1990s and because the government failed in managing this resources , we couldn't gain almost anything from this step and a large percent of incomes were going to foreign Corporations and few people who helped them to achieve this unfair agreements. The summary is that we have been transporting oil for more than ten years but for sure we are not until the moment a source of it.

I guess that there is a similar situations in some of the Arab countries regarding the resources management, therefore there should be a clear review and evaluation for the way Energy resources was used in the Arab world in the last 50 years and to discover why we couldn't achieve the presumed benefits from it. This criticizing review of our past is really important in order to create strategic plans that will boost economies and strengthen the role of Arab countries in the world. Well, as far as we use our Energy sources rationally and logically , we will ensure a bright future for our countries in a world that stands and will stand on Oil energy for at least 30 years and for sure we should use the benefits of this era to have an easy access to alternative energy in the future .

If we discuss energy and relate it to Arabic countries, then we should look at it from two different angles.
The first side is energy within countries that are still incapable of providing the full needed energy (e.g electricity) for the basic infrastructure and all citizens. For example, Yemen.
The other side is to discuss energy sources in relatively richer countries and who are on the look for new resources.
In the first side, it is extremely difficult to start discussing using new resources of energy that are more environment-friendly, when in the first base not all the population enjoy the luxury of the basic type of energy which is electricity.
Some have mentioned that we have some nuclear power plants. I think that it is not a matter of competing and running to have a nuclear power plant, than it is more of a matter of studying how will it work, its effects, advantages and disadvantages. As some of you might have heard about the latest scandal in Yemen regarding the company that was contracted to build a nuclear power plant in Yemen.
Anyways, what also worries me with nuclear power plants is the nuclear waste. Are the Arab countries capable of getting rid of the wastes? As we have heard previously that some countries dump their wastes in poor countries, then where will the poor countries dump their nuclear waste?
Coming to study the other side, taking for example the GCC countries that are still advancing further with the large amounts of oil exported daily, and profits being turned to new business and investment opportunities. The question to ask is how much amount of this money is put into RESEARCH, and not only research within the GCC countries but also research money given as aid to the other countries to look for new opportunities. If this is one of the main topics to be recommended in the FIQR conference as a way of discussing Arab Strategies, then it is important to consider the role of the research and ways of finding cooperation in research between different countries.
