I also sugest that moral upbringing have rule to play in reducing rape activities, eg. in Easthern Nigeria, we do see rape as a serious taboo starting from the days of our fore fathers and that respect has been there, if one ignorantly induged in raping, will do some cultral cleans by paying some charges to the community for such ill doing and the same as married women has to tie wrapper to differeciate them from ladies, hopeful culture and good upbring will help combat this trend.big grin

Yes, I agree with the above post - BUT, will even take it a step further: a holistic approach needs to be adopted to combat sexual violence. Focusing on repercussion or punishment for perpetrators is a start, but several other interventions need to be put into place to! Raising children with solid foundations and strong morals, I believe, is essential in sustaining a caring and respectful environment.

There should be some form of public education about respecting everyones dignity and maybe if there is a way to teach people how to protect themselves from rape.

And i feel the government and the law authorities have alot of roles to play.

rape victims should try and report every rapist ( even though i know there is stigmatisation) and the law should deal with every rape situation seriously and be a little bit lenient on evidence provision, or are they expecting every victim to have a video record of what happened?

Hi Nana, yes, I agree with what you say. In line with this, I feel that teachers should be educated too so that they can recognize the signs and symptoms for early intervention.
