In what ways do you learn best?

In what ways do you learn best? (e.g. teacher lectures, solving problems on the blackboard, small group discussions, internet based courses, hands on projects). Why?
Please elaborate on your favorite learning style giving specific examples of when you really enjoyed learning and you totally understood the information.

i would have to say group learning is a fantastic way of understanding things easily and clarifying any questions we have. while our questions are being answered, we also try to answer those that our counterparts raise. so its a very interactive way of learning.
however, we have to be careful to avoid gossiping. there must be simulations and other creative way to make every group member to get involved into the discussion.

It probably sounds rather anti-social but I find I learn things best when I explore it individually. I enjoy taking the information/lecture/book away and going through the material on my own. Having someone like a teacher to go to with questions is important too... but I just find that in groups I can be shy and introverted. If I just have some time to think and work it out in my own space and time I absorb the information best.

I think I learn best from an interactive lecture, like a workshop. I like people to talk to me about what they are trying to teach, but I also like the prospet of them asking for feedback, questions and to let us participate and help shape the lecture.

I tend to think I obtain more when learning from a friend or even a classmate. I relate more to how they explain things and using a "student" language . Another way I understand a lot of information, is if I take whats given to me and relate it to something in my life or just even something that comes to mind. Always works!

I prefer to learn through interaction. I find that I learn more and feel more affected by the material if I have applied my knowledge through solving problems and/or through group discussions. Through interaction, the information I have received does not pass over me instead I am able to handle, shape, contribute and distribute my own ideas and perspectives on the subject. This helps to engage my mind and I have found that all of my favorite class’s instructors have taught in this way.

It really depends on the subject. There are certain things that I learn by writing it down (stuff like history and science, random facts...)
Other things, like math problems, I learn better by repetition, doing the same sort of problem over and over again until I get the logic pattern...
Other things, I learn better in practice, doing hand on projects, like graphics design, lighting and camera, production, set and costumes... (I'm a radio and television major)
I also remember facts better when in song. only way I could memorize the states was because I learned "fifty nifty united states". I still can't remember all the states in Brazil because there is no song about it

I learn best, when I am in classroom environment, I learn much more through was is not directly said by the teacher, but also through verbal cues, gestures all other human communication media!
Also the best way to learn for me is to feel involved in what you learn, by adding an emotional component to it. It is well known that memory is linked with emotions. You learn a lot by making a presentation in front of other people for instance, because you have pressure and feel emotions with your audience.
Nothing replaces human interactions. As regard e-learning I had some courses and the courses which taught me the most had video presentations with a tutor speaking while discussing a powerpoint presentation.

My all-time favorite way to study is to drink a lot of coffee or tea, eat strawberry twizzlers, listen to instrumental music at about 80 beats per minute (Bonobo or Cafe del Mar works nicely), and read, read, read for several hours (alone!). Or, in the case of quantitative subjects, practice, practice practice...
While reading, highlighting different subjects and ideas with many different colors seems to help. Also, I've never absorbed material from reading a computer screen as well as I do from good old paper books. Occasionally, I've recorded lectures and transcribed notes from them, and find that quite effective as well. Maybe reading finished material from the computer isn't so great, but creating study guides on the computer certainly is!
I suppose these study habits may not be so effective if I were trying to learn dance steps. But I vouch for their worth to anyone in pursuit of a B.S. in biology.

It depends on the type of information that I have to learn.
I learn engineering concepts best when I am able to observe the theories in the laboratory.
As for subjects that involve problem solving, I have to understand first how a certain formula have been derived, which means that I have to read the book/material first by myself. Afterwhich, I have to solve several book problems and compare my answers with the correct ones. Also, answering exams previously given by the professor really helps.
As for other types of information, I learn best by repetition. I work with a small group of friends: we ask each other different questions and share valuable information.

Learning has always been a major issue for me in school because the way I learned best was not necessarily the way my school had conceded on teaching.
I learn best by example. Although I have been blessed with an excellent photogenic memory (memory using mental images and pictures), it depends on other important and integral factors. First, I, like many other students have difficulty conceptualizing a new concept or idea without an accompaning visual image or example. The nascent teaching style in Canadian public education has focused on abstract learning (with little to no visual components for the most part) that relied more on a model of trial and error then example-based learning. Even when examples were included they were often insufficient for practical application or for aiding novel interpretations of phenomenon being presented.
Second, despite the fact that my learning style tends to favor independent learning, I also have found that I benefited from a highly integrative approach that utilized collective brainstorming techniques that did not presuppose one right answer. However, this integrative process is largely dependent on the teacher or leader of a group who is facilitating this learning process. Although rare, I found that teachers that promoted co-operative or collective learning between students, whereby teacher intervention was minimized to guiding the effectiveness of the learning process, modeled a more democratic approach to learning.
I think it would be helpful for everyone to study how they learn best by examining their learning environments, learning aids, and teaching styles in order to maximize their learning experience.

I find it easiest to learn by teaching someone else actually! Something as simple as teaching someone in my class about a particular part of the lesson they didn't understand and vice versa really helps me for tests and final exams because I always remember the way I tought it to them or how they explained the lesson to me in their own words.
