One of my greatest learning experiences was through a group project. It was nice to work in a team (which is a great learning experience in its own right- later on in life most of us will have to work as a team, so is a good thing to learn earlier on in life). Group projects are also great as individually we are all stronger in certain areas, so as a team we can build and learn from each others' strengths and perspectives. Projects also tend to be more creative, but also tend to incorporate many elements of learning- researching and presenting being two of them!

I think it is very hard to be tested if you are working with a group. You have too many ideas to work with and everyone's mind seems to always be somewhere else. I believe at times it could be beneficial but mainly there is just too much that could go wrong with having so many people that it will most likely change your grade. I like best working with a partner especially if you know the person well. Usually the work gets done sooner and atleast if your partner doesnt do the work, you can always count on yourself. I hate writing essays. Eventhough it may be one of the best ways to test someone becuase it makes you write all you know about the question, it throws me off when. When I have finished the multiple choice, fill in the blanks, and true anf false sections, and then i see an essay, i get irritated cause i think I'm done. I guess i should learn my lesson to look through the test.

I think the way I would like to be tested depends on the material I am being tested on. I really do enjoy writing essays, group projects and presentations the best though, because I am a social person; I like to talk about my ideas with others and I learn through discussion. I find that with essays, group projects and presentations I am able to express ideas with creativity. This type of interaction with material helps me take ‘ownership’ over the material and makes me feel like an active contributor to my learning experience.

Depending on the subject, I like to do an essay analyzing texts... like for history, ethics, legislations, econ...
for geography, i love filling out maps and coloring in regions and that sort of stuff...
for sciences, i like doing lab reports and experiments...
for math, i dig doing just problems.
for college, the best way to learn is by making movies and tv shows, so that is what we do... we have to write scripts, produce, prepare, do the lighting, the set... that works wonders.

Since I have a pretty good memory I prefer multiple choice tests, but ideally I would prefer to be tested through practical application like through field research, building something, or a lab.

I think too much emphasis is put on written tests in our school system. Having to write eleoquently on a subject as quickly a spossible does not seem to me to be a meaningful indicator of knowledge or inteeligence. All it proves is that you can write fast. I think this is especaially true of essay questions on tests.
Personally I would like to see more group evaluation, spoken word evaluation, and other under-utilised methods. For instance, have a gorup discussion and mark students based on their participation.
If you are going to rate people on their written answers, a test should at least be take home. Having to respond to a question on the spot is a valuable skill, but having to do so in a written format with a time limit does not seem to me to be a relevant skill.

I would probably say "group project" and "presentations" - because with group projects you get the opportunity to learn from others and with "presentations" you have to teach other people - and if you have to teach someone else something you have learned you really need to know your stuff!
Oh yeah - i was also going to mention you should make your post as a poll - with the options - that way people can just click if they don't feel like writing a whole message and it's easier to tally at the end

Because I have a pretty good memory I like written papers, however I sometimes prefer group exercises because I find I learn a lot more.

Coming from a university that really (and I mean, really) emphasises group work assignments, I can safely say it's my least favourite form of being tested! Too many times the people in the group don't have the same expectations or level of care in the work that is to be done, and therefore you're never going to get the results you truly deserve. However, this has just been my own experience, I know a lot of people value group work and testing.
Personally, I love essays. Even more so if the question is unseen beforehand. I think it puts people on a more level-playing field. Having to sustain a coherent, well-structured argument for a certain length of time with only your brain and your knowledge at your immediate disposal can really highlight what level people are at.

I like multiple choice and short answer tests frequently during the term as well as essays and take home assignments again frequently during the term. If you continuously practice the material and are prepared for tough assignments and pop quizzes, it's so much easier to perform well on the finals because your expectations of difficulty are much higher. When you expect more from yourself, you are driven to succeed and eventually, that drive becomes easier and easier and you begin achieving at your maximum potential.

All of the above. Since I get bored easily. I like to memorize and get the right answer but I also like creative stuffs such as writing papers or journal or making movies. Group projects are ok if my groupmates are ok too. If there's no rapport, that would pose a problem.

7 + 9
If every one of my exams was a presentation (or something that allows me to orally present my knowledge - like making a movie) I would be a much, much better student.
I think standardized written tests should be banished off the face of the earth. They're really not fair to those of us who are otherwise great students, but are bad test-takers.
