Animal Testing For Medical Purposes

There is a lot of question as to whether or not animal testing is the right way to go when researching medicinal treatments and diseases etcetera.
The fact is that a lot of diseases have been fought off due to the fruits of animal testing, polio and diabetes for example. And obviously it's generally considered more ethical to perform experiments on lab mice than on humans.
However, there is the question of animal cruelty in research facilities. Often companies don't really have the funding to treat them at a level higher than merely keeping them alive for tests. Meanwhile, lots of them are being treated with medicines which do not affect them in the same way that they affect humans, so often its a waste of time.
I just wonder where the line should be drawn between supporting the rights of people to have new treatments, and supporting the rights of animals to live.

I think this is the right way to test animals for medical purpose.
Feelings of animals are not as much complicated and intense as feelings of human beings. When we see someone suffer we all get sad, suffering of one human is suffering of all…..
In animals I don’t think this sense will be this much intense…
Similarly its natural to treat animals in this way , some of the animals are meant for advantage of humans for example we can’t live without meat so shall we stop killing animals for meat because its cruelty against animals.
So I think to see animals suffer is so common in communities but to see Humans suffering is a bit
Hard job…..

Animal are meant for benefit of human beings …… What do you say about ecosystem in which every specie uses other specie for its own benefit ……..Parasites for example live on other species….
So it’s a natural going process………………………………………………………………………….
I think it’s natural to use animals for different purposes………..using it for testing medicine is also one of them……

I don't know exactly how I feel about this issue. I do aknowledge the benefits of testing on animals and the positive outcomes of it, but I feel like there is some injustice, as the animals can't consent to these testings, and as it was said, sometimes the tests are useless because it would effect humans differently than animals. So, as I said I don't have a solid stance on the issue, but I figured I'd throw my opinion out there anyway.

I'm against animal testing, yes it may have helped in the past but with science now being so evolved surely we can find another way to test these things without torturing animals? a lot of the time animal testing does not work- humans are very different mice so how can testing drugs and poisons on mice really make us aware of whether the effect will be the same on humans? -thalidomide babies for instance- the drug designed to combat morning sickness seemed to be harmless; high doses did not kill rodents, rabbits, cats or dogs, nor show any other side effects yet when the babies of the mothers who took the drugs were born they had sever mutations.

I believe that animal testing should be allowed because how else are we going to test our new drugs/products and know that they are 100% safe for human use. From a medical corporation point of view this save millions of dollars in legal terms. Animal testing is a great way to find out the side effects and complications that accompany a new product. If we adopt a policy of no animal testing, how else are we going to find out the complications? should we use human testing instead and jeopardize a valued human life? This is why we should allow animal testing.

saying that animal testing is a "great way to find out side effects of a new product" is naive- as i previously said animal testing doesn't always work- humans are very different from most of the animals we test products on. The tests used are often equal to torture for the animals- how is this fair? simply using animals for our own benefit because they can't do anything to protect themselves. I don't see what's wrong with testing on humans if they volunteer for the tests- the results would be sounder and they at least know what they've gotten into.
