US Academics Attacked For Not Being Patriotic Enough
The wife of the US vice President has lent her voice to a report from a conservative group that has named 40 university Professors who they claim have not showed enough patriotism since Sept 11.
The American Council of Trustees and Alumni, founded by Mrs Cheney, said that there have been 117 known incidences of university Professors who have criticised the government or held classes which supposedly blamed the US for terrorism problems.
One Professor is on the list for saying that "disparities and injustices" in society lead to the attacks and that people must learn to look at nations "through the sensitivities of others" to understand why the attacks took place.

This is unforgiveable.

It is the job of professors to challenge assumptions and raise difficult questions. While we may not agree with what they say, we would be no better than the Taliban to try to silence them.
By the way, this is nothing new in the US. Eleanor Roosevelt was often called unpatriotic because she criticized the internment of US citizens of Japanese descent and lack of US action against the Holocaust.

ok rsmarg - youve decided to AGREE with me. And you have a hell of a way of doing it.
I never claimed that it was bad for academics to be unpatriotic. In fact, i support the idea that they are of more use to students if they are anything but patriotic. That way the views they divulge in are not open to distortion.
Im not sure where you got the impression you thought i was disagreeing with the article i posted.
Maybe you didnt, and just felt like stating the obvious.
Either way, your moderate method of thinking is starting to get on my nerves
