School Sucks! Or does it?
What are some of the worst things that schools can do to students? Some of the bad ways teachers "teach," some of the terrible ways administrators treat students?
What are some good things that schools can, and do, do to students? Some of the best ways teachers reach students? Some of the coolest ways administrators act towards students?
I think schools are doing better, but are far from good as a whole. What do you think?

School for me and I know many of the guys I learnt with was beyond the time spent in the class. It was the friends we made, our second home and mostly what built me to be wh I am. Brief background, I learnt in Zimbabwe for my high school. Kutama College was a catholic mission school that taught and always promotated self reliance and that we are all equal and should respect each other no matter what background. Anyway I guess that the reason I think school does suck, 9/12months i would be in school 24/7 meaning most of my teeeangehood came and left while at school.
I could go on about the diffrent life lessons you learn - personally and from others. The experiences, the FUN!!! all that covered the time spent in my Chemistry lesson (yuck!!!!). At time you only start to apprticiate things when you have lost them or they are gone. Began loving my school soon after leaving, if fact i would repeat the experience over and over again. Doing my hand washed laundry, the growing crops in the fields, going for punshments, trips, and the like.
I guess if you think of it, schools aren't just what you get in the class room but everything else about school...the sports, events and students you meet evryday. Is this the same situation in European, Asian. American and Aussie schools?

hehe the way u put the questions sounds so..negative to me. It sounds like schools are established to do bad things, or for teachers to teach badly, or administratirs to treat terribly.. i mean school is not a place to torture kids.Just that sometimes school heads dont have a good method or enuf understanding about the students.
school suck when knowledge teachers offer doesnt meet student's real need or of their interests,and suck when student's opinions are not valued.
well skul is not only for study textbooks but for study life thru socializing..thaz the cool part of school that i enjoyed.
but i prefer school on the roads tho 
aniwaz skul doesnt suck if u make up ur mind to find ways to have fun and enjoy it.

in one season or year it may be paradise, for others in one season or other year it can be hell.
For some the whole process does not work too well, for others it is exactly what is needed.
It offers guidelines (formulas) on how to sucseed or at least survive within the enviroments they live in. Each enviroment having its own end agenda. These being run by business, religion and government. Not_always in that order or in the presence of all three of these influences. Most of the time not for a global outlook but for local interest.
True, enjoy it as much as one can, one must. It is a big part of ones foundation for latter on in life.
Trick is to learn as much from them as one can so when one gets out, one can use the system to beat the system (if one does not like the way it is).
p.s. it is not easy when some people mature faster then others or are more mature then others which always happens in grade and high school. Leaving some bored others sweating in work.

I have to agree that school can be boring (sometimes) but it also can be very fun as the same time. We come here to get an education and within this we learn the traits such as working with different people, solving problems on our own and building confidence!!! No matter how much we hate school...it still plays a important role in our lives so we really don't have a choice!!!!

school's cool! even though sometimes it may be relly boring but hey! its for our good. our education. our future. bsides, working hard now could lead to good and relaxing futures. it's gonna be all worth it in the end. i also like school cuz i get to see my friends.

I agree with hardeep.For example if you hate a teacher in your school then you say that school sucks but you have towork hard and forget about the teacher that you hate because if you didnt work hard and only mind teachers you will fail and go back to the teacher that you hate.Like hardeep said school can be boaring some times but is for us to learn.

School in the land of Oz :P (Australia, that is) is great!!! Although I do know that school in Aus i smuch better than many other countries, and I am grateful for it.
although some things at school do get annoying (such as exams)

if you ask me, school is pretty much just like the rest of life. it can be great - it provides friendships, knowledge, all that good stuff. it also can suck - for example, when teachers aren't good at teaching, or when homework and exams create an overwhelming amount of stress..... But in the long run, after it's all over, you can go back and laugh at how much you hated one teacher, or how worried you were about a certain essay. and it just amounts to one huge experience with the inevitable, memorable ups and downs that you wouldn't exchange for anything.

I understand and hear everyone's statements about how school is ultimately supposed to be 'good' for you, but...
What about the rows of desks that resemble the ranks of the military?
What about curriculum that reflects one culture's heritage and history above the rest?
What about the class system that look like our classist societies?
What about honors classes jammed with rich kids, and vocational classes jammed with working class students?
What about school boards filled with adults making decisions for students, not with students?
Doesn't any of this bother you? Fire you up?
Is school simply to learn how to assimilate better? Or is it supposed to challenge us to reach higher?

yeah, those sorts of things can make me a little angry. especially the favoring one's heritage/culture thing... i know that at my school, we study world history for one year (and it heavily favors the European part of the world), and then we study American history and American government for the next three years. How horrible is that?!! and i agree that the students don't have enough say in what goes on at school. just recently one of our art teachers was forced to resign, and even though a large group of students (and parents) showed up at a school board meeting to support her and oppose it, she still has to leave. so unfair!
so, yes. those things make me angry. but i think they can be changed - with a lot of work - and we could certainly be a lot worse off.

schools are not even meant to teach you any thing any more, its just to take up time and nothing more. Tests are pointless, they are just there for the final thing, they don't even reveiw what you've learned most of the time. The teachers are just there to get the day over with, they don't even care if you've learned any thing of not. You have to take a certain amount of athletic classes in school, is there even a reason for that, NO, just like school itself. The athletic thing I just threw out there, cuss its an example of the pointless things schools demand from you. Some might say that schools help you meet freinds, I meat all my freinds out of school, so any one else can do it too. Most kids don't even realy learn any thing in school any more, cuss of schools simply not giving a crap about they're students. Infact most kids look back after graduation and wonder "What did I realy learn, was the last 18 to 22 years totaly waisted?". Used to if you had a good education and stuff you could get a job, easy. But now there is practicly no chance of ever getting a job any more, and especialy now, any gay, or cripple, or forign person, or the boss's freind, with maybe no education, can just go in and get the job over you!!!! This is why school sucks and no longer serves a perpouse any more. I probebly have many misspelling in this, but guess wut, I am a straight A student, just finish the test you don't have to remember it and you pass, all this is why school serves no purpouse!!!

And also, even though I get straight "A's", I forget it right after words, I mean its not like you have to learn any thing to pass a class, and I'll probebly get a job over some one who realy deserves it, just cuss he got "A's" and "B's", cuss he was to busy studying the past things he learned and trying to acualy learn things. But with the economy right now, I won't be able to get a job any ways, so hey, we both lose. YEAH!!! And its all thanks to school, thank you school, for the waisted 22 years in my life, I could have used to do something that I realy felt good about. I know the kids who hold shoot outs in the schools thank you in they're own way, oh no wait, they did that cuss of those darn video games and rock music, the fault could'nt lie with us, the schools, noooo. We, the schools and the government, just will simply ignore the problem and maybe it will go away.

Education is wonderful, the education system often isnt.
What really sucks are the british AS-levels; having just finsihed mine i can honestly say that they were a complete waste of time; one my fisrt day as a 6th former at school we were doing past exam papers; now were only ever trained for exams; and whats the value in that?
