The road to World Peace.

I guess a question that keeps coming up for me as I read about people's visions and ideals as they pretain to world peace is...How?
What makes this generation of Man more enlightened, more capable than the entire history of mankind to acheive world peace?
If this is a form of evolution, what will stop the unwated traits in people who will still, murder, rape, plot and destroy?
genetic engineering?
If commiting evil only takes the will to do so...how then will society ever be at peace?
