what does ethnic minority mean to you?
September 9, 2007 - 03:45 AM

In many countries a group/groups of people are deprived of some of their basic rights as they are regarded a minority. We have Baluchs and Kurds being suppressed in Iran etc due to the same logic.
Why do you thing it is so and does it have to be prevented. what can the youth of the suppressed communities do to get to their legal rights?

Minority is, as you said, a small number of people of certain ethnicity in a country of another predominant ethnicity(ies).

It is only "natural" (or rather a better word is human) to treat others who are unlike you in a different, allegedly "unequal" way from those whom you consider "equal." It is only transparency of governments, open-mindedness of leaders and presence of an appropriate infrastructure that will make minorities not only well-represented in governmental and other affairs, but also respected and treated fairly by majorities or predominant populations.

A good one from Sana and I'm agreeing with him that marginalisation happens between the minority and majority groups especialy when the majority holds power, normally such should not be found in a good governce but it does happens.smile
