Which is the simplest way to know if a person is obese or not?
Does height and the body weight play a role in this?

BMI

BMI, or body mass index, is a simple and widely used method for estimating body fat.[2] In epidemiology BMI alone is used as an indicator of prevalence and incidence.

BMI was developed by the Belgian statistician and anthropometrist Adolphe Quetelet.[3] It is calculated by dividing the subject's weight by the square of his/her height, typically expressed either in metric or US "Customary" units:

Metric: BMI = kg / m2

Where kg is the subject's weight in kilograms and m is the subject's height in metres.

US/Customary: BMI = lb * 703 / in2

Where lb is the subject's weight in pounds and in is the subject's height in inches.

The current definitions commonly in use establish the following values, agreed in 1997 and published in 2000:[4]

* A BMI less than 18.5 is underweight
* A BMI of 18.5–24.9 is normal weight
* A BMI of 25.0–29.9 is overweight
* A BMI of 30.0–39.9 is obese
* A BMI of 40.0 or higher is severely (or morbidly) obese
* A BMI of 35.0 or higher in the presence of at least one other significant comorbidity is also classified by some bodies as morbid obesity.[5][6]

In a clinical setting, physicians take into account race, ethnicity, lean mass (muscularity), age, sex, and other factors which can affect the interpretation of BMI. BMI overestimates body fat in persons who are very muscular, and it can underestimate body fat in persons who have lost body mass (e.g. many elderly).[1] Mild obesity as defined by BMI alone is not a cardiac risk factor, and hence BMI cannot be used as a sole clinical and epidemiological predictor of cardiovascular health.[7]

Obesity is considered a big problem in our world, as we know; a big part of our population is suffering this problem, most people are not well informed about what really causes obesity and all the big problems and diseases that can impact out lives.
Obesity and overweight are defined as irregular or excessive fat accumulation that presents a danger for our health. The measure of obesity is (BMI) the body mass index, a person’s weight (in kilograms) divided by the square of his or her height (in meters). Someone who has a BMI of 30 or more is usually considered obese and a person with a BMI equal to or more than 25 is considered overweight.
Obesity is major risk factor for a number of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer. We need to make conscience about this big issue that is affecting our life. We need to get informed about this problem to not suffer any of these chronic diseases and that’s why I’m going to give some information about obesity and some things that we can do to avoid it and to not become a victim of it.
According to my sources, obesity treatments have two objectives: “To achieve a healthy weight and to maintain that healthy weight”. According to the Mayo Clinic, successful and permanent weight loss is best achieved as a result of increased physical activity, changing how and when you eat, and modifying your behavior. Some patients may be prescribed medication, while others might undergo weight-loss surgery. In my opinion weight-loss surgery is not a very good idea for weight-loss, for me this is a big risk for the people that take this decision, sometimes obese people are very worried about their problem or they feel bad because of their appearance or they fell depressed because of this and they feel that they need to finish their problems with a weight-loss surgery in a very “simple way” sometimes they don’t think well and they go with false doctors and they do surgeries that can cause another bigger problems or sometimes cause death.
For dietary changes, according to my search, “obese people to reduce their total daily calorie intake and to consume more fruits, vegetables and whole grains. It is important that your diet is varied - you still need to feed yourself, and should continue to enjoy the tastes of different foods. The consumption of sugar, certain refined carbohydrates and some fats should be reduced significantly.”

In conclusion we need to be informed about this big issue and help other people to not get overweight we need to have on mind some recommendations and remember that “People who are seriously obese may be prescribed a very low calorie liquid diet. These must be done with a health care professional” and that we are not professionals to decide what we need or what we not need to eat because that can affect our health too, we need to go with a Doctor or with a nutriologist.

You can fight obesity with proper diet. When choosing a diet, make sure that you choose one that fits your lifestyle as choosing a diet that does not support your lifestyle has more chances of failure.

One diet that I swear by is the Medifast diet. You get to eat 6 healthy meals a day on a schedule that's convenient for you.

What is obesity? Obesity is a label for ranges of weight that are greater than what is generally considered healthy for a given height. The term also identifies ranges of weight that have been shown to increase the likelihood of certain diseases and other health problems. The measure of obesity is (BMI) the body mass index, a person’s weight (in kilograms) divided by the square of his or her height (in meters). Someone who has a BMI of 30 or more is usually considered obese and a person with a BMI equal to or more than 25 is considered overweight.

Obesity is one the major problems in the U.S because of the influence of fast food restaurants. Many people don’t know the risks they are taking by not eating healthy food. This causes people to gain weight faster and a big amount of body fat. Being overweight increases the risk of many diseases and health conditions, including the following: 2 different types of diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and strokes.
People usually gain more weight than what they burn. This is because people don’t mind to do some exercise or to eat healthy. Obesity could be controlled by doing physical activity and stop eating junk food, which has many calories and fats.
There are many fast food restaurants for example; Mc Donald’s, Jack in the Box, Wendy’s and many more. Food is available everywhere, and people are bombarded with food adds they are seen in tv, radio, internet and streets. These restaurants are a really bad habit for the people. This is one of the reasons why people are influencing to obesity. All fast food restaurants are very bad the food from it is not healthy it's the kind of food you want to avoid eating. Most fast food options are high in fat (including saturated fats), sugar or salt, or all three. These foods can also be low in fibre, vitamins and minerals.

The fat of obese Americans is not only from eating junk food, in a sense of way their metabolism doesn’t function the proper way it should. Obesity is not only caused by consuming large meals, high-fat foods or not getting enough physical activity, but obesity tends to run in families. However, families also share diets and lifestyle habits that may contribute to obesity, being a genetic cause. Although, the genetic can’t be changed, it could be work on changing eating habits and levels of physical activities.
Now in these days, most of the people in the U.S. eats junk food and fast food, what causes them to gain easier a big amount of fat and weight.
Exercising is one method obese people may use to lose weight.. You can attend a gym where you may have a coach who could help you lose weight. Playing a sport could be perfect to help you lose weight at the same time you could have lots of fun. Practicing a sport would be perfect to distract you from your obesity problems, which depresses many people.
Among people who are overweight and obese, weight loss can help reduce the chances of developing these health problems.

Hospitals in Germany treat more and more patients with obesity problems that is an international pandemic in our modern society. Germany lapband surgery is a type of bariatric surgery for obese individuals with a BMI of 40 or greater, or for those with a BMI of between 35–40 in cases of patients with certain syptoms that are known to improve with weight loss.

you know that some people have heavier bones or more persons, at the same weight, look very different one from another...well, this is not the case for obesity, as when one person is obese, she/he has definitely crossed over the normal weight limit, and it is not a rigid one. And weight and height are good estimators

Recently I read an article in Readers Digest that it is carbs (sugars), that make people gain weight rather than fat, or a high calorie intake. Because lots of carbs increases the amount of insulin in your body which increases fat storage. Does anyone know more about this?

First of all you may guess if person suffers from overweight by his appearance. Yet, at the initial stages it can be hardly seen, try to find a formula that shows a relation between height and your bodyweight. For more accurate result you can visit a hospital, or even a drugstore. There, they have special tools that measure you fat weight, water and even calcium. In case some indexes are wrong, doc may prescribe some pills, the variety of which is really long http://solutions4weightloss.com/buy-duromine-new-zealand/
