help me get ride of those pop ups

Hi guys!!
lately, my computer have been getting pop ups of commercials whenever its connected to the internet. we use roger high speed internet so whenever the computer is on we are connected to the internet and we are wide open to pop ups.
i understand that something had happend to our connection and now personal information could be easily leaked out to the entire web.
from wut i noe the only way to block them is to sign up to a block messenger sort of they but we'll have to pay. so if u noe any website where i could download a system 4 free to block pop up messenger would u plz tell me, juss post it here.
