Gap year to travel and see the world

Hi,
My name is a Travis Taylor and I just graduated high school and instead of going to college I am now sitting in a beach town in Costa Rica working for a company that organizes volunteer trips around the world. More than ever I feel that people need to reach out past their own communities and experience life from someone elses point of view.
While it would really be best for the volunteers to be 18 for liability reasons, that still lives about 80% of your life left to take part in the programs Volunteer Visions has to offer. Programs are offered in lengths ranging from two weeks to over a year and you really have a huge range of choices to select from, ranging in nature from Sustainable Development to Sea Turtle Conservation. The countries that we currently are partnered with range from Peru to China.
While this is starting to come off as a sales pitch in a much stronger way than I originally intended, I hope the core message remains. For those young enough to still be looking at college, I cannot recommend taking a gap year highly enough and for those in college and beyond, take a vacation from your usual work and discover something new in the world.
While taking a gap year may not be for everyone, I recommend that at the very least everyone travels beyond the borders of their own country at some point in their youth (or old age), and there is little better way to do that than with a company that will guide you into a homestay or apartment and connect you with a local organization in need of your help.
