If we are serious about Taking It Global, then here's a must...

Can we dream of carrying on our African and global work in such a way as to become one of the hosts in the transition process of Omidyar's communities?
If so, take the time to study the following:

Hi Benoit,
I am aware of the Omidyar Network/Foundation and there is certainly opportunities for TIG to be involved with them.
If anyone on here has had any sort of experience with Omidyar, please respond or message me - I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.
Nick

Hi Nick,
Something quite weird was going on with the link that I provide in the initial post. When I clicked on it, I ended up at the wrong page and when I copy and paste that same link, I end up at the right one.
I now have it fixed.
So by going bach to read the right post, it will answer many of your questions.
The point of interest as to why I am posting that link, is that Omidyar is about to close down in September and it is posted by one who knows the network well and who is one of the world leading networkers.
Can TIG become positioned to become one of the Internet hosts and contributor in the transitions of the Omidyar communities?

Is there a way to tie into the success of kiva.org? If so, there may be a natural solution to keeping funding flowing. It's my understanding that kiva needs more on-the-ground partners to manage microlending, and a recent massive news coverage of kiva in the United States (not just New York Times but Oprah covered kiva.org!) means that they've got more lenders than borrowers, I think.

Thank you for that info Ben.
I sent it right away to a group who works on the ground in many African countries:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/holistichelping/
Here is the note I gave them:
"This could be promising to get focused and organized for many people and groups.
I'll wait for your expert answer Janet before proceeding to give this info around to the other groups of Minciu Sdoas http://www.ms.lt/ . It might even be wise to first discuss among the leaders, how to design a strategy to co-ordinate a synergy of loans recipients, so that planning could give rise and shape to the launch of Unity Centre - Global Village start ups."
Ben,
Do you think that this idea could be workable?

kiva.org has so far leveraged over US$10 million in microloans, and their early success rate and publicity suggest that the amount of money could easily double or triple. In addition, as loans are repaid (97% right now!), people are encouraged to reinvest in making other loans -- and as the average loan span is only about 6 months, that keeps capital flowing rapidly.
Since you can become a "microlender" for as little as US$25, they've opened up a huge potential peer-to-peer funding market that's been untapped.
If you know of on-the-ground resources who can evaluate potential microborrowers and serve as a conduit for microlending and repayment, I'd suggest contacting kiva.org directly to see if there's a partnership opportunity there. I was impressed by the work that they're doing and how easy they make it for people with some resources to make a difference.
