People often complain from time to time that they are overweight.
Which is the best way to lose weight?
Does it have a side effect?
If yes, what advice would you give?

There are so many diets around nowadays..I wouldn't know where to begin..
I believe the best way to lose weight is by taking regular exercise and then gradually increase the amount of exercise you do..
Eating sensibly is also a must..If you eat a good breakfast to start your metabolism going..and then try to eat less during the day..and certainly don't eat any carbohydrates after 18.00 in the evening..
There is a saying..Eat like a king in the morning..eat like a prince at lunchtime and eat like a pauper in the evening..In other words..reduce the amount of food as the day goes on..
By the way..I'm no expert..but this has worked for me in the past..but then again everyone is different..

Eat 5 small meals a day-- which includes lots of fruit and veggies. And of course, EXERCISE. Do at least 30 minutes of cardio 5 times a week.

back to the basics--the closer it is to nature, the better it is for you.
you should know how your food was made (does anyone understand--or want to know--how they make Twinkies, Bologna, etc?--exactly my point)
try to cut soda pop out of you diet--it's horrible for you. many people lose weight just from this simple change.
if possible, grow some of your own food. try to eat more fruits and veggies.
drink lots of water and tea and eat soup. they'll help you feel full and dilute the fats and chemicals in your body
go for (naturally) colorful foods and whole grains. try wild rice instead of white (it's my favorite). if you don't like brown bread, try "cracked wheat"--i like it even though i hate most other brown bread types.
meats should look like meat. once again, bologna is a good example of what doesn't count. fish and bird meat are generally the healthiest. American bison is the best cattle-like meat that i'm aware of.
remember that easier isn't always better. "instant" meals usually have a lot of chemicals and fats that are horrible for you.
i wish i could say that i follow my own advice, but i eat way too much junk food too. just try to make a few changes at a time and it should help you to be healthier.

I think the best advice to give is NOT to go on crash diets. That's probably the worst thing you can do... Just be confident in yourself and work hard. You have to make a councious effort to change or you won't get anywhere.

Well, lets see... half the girls from my high school were constantly missing after lunch, and caught gagging in the stalls... I partially blame the media, however I feel that the society we live in today, especially amongst teenagers has become very strict with whats "in". Commonly within teens, they are so caught up in what they have to look like, what boys will like them, and what the scale reads that they tend to overlook their own health. A major result of that is leading to eating disorders and diet pills.
I also find that when people feel the need to shed some pounds the wrong way, they have many excuses for why they must do it. No matter the reason, its not necessary. People become dependent on these actions, never become satisfied with a good weight, and essentially danger their health.
I guess I think people, wether they want to loose some weight, or even put on some pounds, needs to 1. do it in a safe and healthy way and 2. have a little more confidence in the person you are and the body you are given.
*There is always going to be someone who would wish they had your body.....*

This came across my eyes not long ago:
How to drink your way to your ideal weight:
Drink only GOOD water!
Drink at least 1 liter of good water for every 30 pounds of body weight each day.
Drink at least 1 liter of good water when you first get up in the morning. This helps to flush out your kidneys, bladder and bowels, as well as re-hydrates and energizes or charges your body with electrons.
Drink one 16 oz glass every hour, or 1 liter every 2 hours.
Drink most of your water between meals.
Drink at habitual times throughout the day; don't wait until you are thirsty or hungry.
Drink an extra liter of water for each hour of exercise.
Drink warm water to ease congestion or constipation.
Drink 16 oz at the end of each day.

I think the media has a great influence on what people think to be the "best" weight to achieve. Subconciously, we fit our expectations and guidelines to them. It's because media is everywhere we take in all that information. I guess the only thing to say is that media although spreads knowledge, it can affect how people think and measure themselves. Celebrities are a definite impact as some consider them their role models or idols. Weight is such a huge matter, i think especially to females, the amount of diet businesses are increasing... think of it as an expensive way to keep fit. Just try to be healthy, eat right, dont skip meals, and exercise or get off the couch often. =D

You should not try to loose fat is you are still a teenager, it may be dangerous. But as long as you eat healthy and excersises, you should be happy. Don't start with pills!

When it comes to this subject, I think doing it the old fashioned way is the best way! Exercise, eat healthy but be ready for this change...body, spirit and mind. I don't really think that surgery is the best thing to do because usually there may be a deeper emotional issue as to why someone turned to food for comfort and they would have to deal with those issues BEFORE deciding to do any sort of surgery. But then again there are pros and cons to everything.
