I discover since i started communicating with the world thu the power of IT, it is still a dream far off for us here in Nigeria my pwn country.
Individuals cannot afford the rates for spending time with the net, the world should take note that IT is still ver expensive to us Africans

There is hope

Hey Edura,
I believe Kenya is similar to Nigeria in more than one way. IT still holds a very minimal impact on most citizens just like in Nigeria. Not that people are not interested in it but the facilities are limited and can only be accessed by those in big town centres.
Just sleep on the computer screen if you have to fo still there is a glimmer of hope that the developing countries will have full access to IT and you have to bring that change!
To all reading this,
I know you will say that we are the change and we should then create it. We do know that too.But llok at this situation, cell phones (mobile) have been introduced to enhance communication. Those who can afford the cost own them and they are quite efficient yet, some of us who live on the country side have to climb a hill to make or receive a call from them since the network in limited. This in itself limits the use of IT.
Despite all these, we still hold onto the believe that all people will be able to benefit from the advantages of IT. We all hope so. The dream will come true one day!

the many divides ...

hi ppl,
i appriciate everybody sharing knowledge on the situation in the "developing world". there are so many divides that we have to be aware of - one that makes us hope but also worries is the so-called "digital divide". and this not only means the technical facilities to access the net but also the financial ressources and individual capabilities to do so.
what you were talking about means that there are 2 classes of ppl at the moment - those who have a chance to benefit from digital opportunities and those who are excluded from it. since communication is the basis of society and thus economy - this means that those who are excluded from ict are also excluded form the socio-economic benefits.
there are ppl concerned about this situation - like myself, trying to help bridging the divides. the thing is, as long as there is no insititution - with money - the only thing we can do is to support you with information and tell you that YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
my aim also is working on projects for sustainable development, trying to find funds and share knowledge, ressources, exchange ppl and so on. i know it will take some time to achieve this goal but be sure there are ppl who are trying to support you!

Hearing you! Feeling you!
To make better changes, your governments need to do a lot of things.
But
on a personal level, you can do something .
like
gather a group of friend and log on TIG together. Money shared.
or
type your posts in word first and then do a copy and paste. Minimum your online time. Save money.
use the low level site . Takes less time to download.save time. Save money.
but dont ever give up. Stay with us!

i thank all of you for the wonderful encouragement. this shows how you feel for us. i know we are going to make it.
before our youth can attempt this , they need empowerement. at thsi juncture i will call on all who will like to have somebody reseach fo him/heror do some survey job in Nigeria from any part of the world for some token to always encourage us since our unemployment rate is more than 50%.
I thank you all.
