Right-Wing: "To Save America We Need Another 9/11"

There is no word to describe the immorality of some right-wing columnists. Here is one arguing that another 9/11 would help America. Read also here for more information.
Despicable.

A sick bastard indeed to think that for one second we have forgotten the enemy.

That's pretty shameful mate.
But there's two sides of every coin.
A Left-Wing professor at the university of colorado, Ward Churchill, said that the victims of the twin tower bombings in nyc deserved what they got, and he even called them 'little eichmanns', referring to adolf eichmann who orgnaizaed the Holocaust.
And he's a professor, teaching in a univeristy mate, that's just as despicable.

It seems all of you miss the point the columnist tries to make.
The guy tries to show that the only way a nation can be really united is by a virtue of an external threat or tragedy. It is not the death of 3000+ that he desires or desired but the fact that that death reunited America and injected more resolve in the American foreign policy is out of doubt.
He it seems sincerely hopes to have an advent of an event of a similar scale because he believes that otherwise the nation is doomed to fail.

I agree with what you say, in which a common enemy brings people together, but I don't think Americans need to be "brought together" anymore than they already are.

I also agree Elemental... but Shmo believe me, Americans are miles apart from where they were on 9/11. I guess a controversial war for one will do that to you.

Hmmm, good point. I suppose I was comparing it to Iraw where there is a desperate need for that. But you're right, thinking about it, America is pretty dvided.

I don't think that we should cause another 9/11 to take place but I understand the reasoning for it. People need a sort of emotional fuel. After September 11th, every citizen in the US was united in one common goal: to defeat "terrorism." Since then, the sense of action has faded and we find ourselves divided. Look back in history; any change that has ever occured followed some devestating event. While I hope whole-heartedly nothing like 9/11 ever happens again in any country, the occurance of something like it would certainly lead to significant change, whether good or bad I have no idea.

Regardless of what benefits begotten from whatever draws people together, death as a unification factor is not a desirable method if you ask me.
A common goal would do the trick just fine.
Then again, they're already whacking the rich-in-oil poor nations anyways.

Well it's also very sick to consider that only that kind of event would unite a nation. That can never be an option, not even in a hypothetic situation.
I do have some problems with United States government's foreign policy, they do not treat the rest of the countries and so they gain the rest of the world's lack of simpathy. Maybe the way to unite that nation is to change those policies and respect the autonomy of other nations.

When I made my post, I didn't mean that we should consider causing anything similar to the attacks on September 11th as a way to unite the country; I meant nothing of the sort. I was simply sharing an observation I've made that it seems to take an event of significant tragedy for anything significant to happen. And as far as a "common goal," where do you believe those common goals come from? Where does the spirt of revolution on a large scale come from? It's unfortunate, but to interest most people, it seems that the problem has to affect them directly. But that's just what I've observed.

Sorry for the second post, but I had something else to say. I don't think it's right to call an observation I've made sick. It would be sick if I was supporting the mass murder of a population to cause change, but I'm not. I stated a simple fact of occurance. It is absolutely true what I said about what took place on september 11th and I challenge you to find any significant change that did not follow some great loss or tragedy. If you do, than my beliefs will most likely change. I don't like this belief I have, but at the same time, I don't think people need to like what they believe. It's almost wrong to base what you believe on what you like and dislike all the time. For example, I believe that millions died in World War II -- I accept that-- but I do not like that it happened. The same is true with this observation. But please, find me a major change that took place without some pre-occuring tragedy. I would love to be wrong on this.

No, no, don't get me wrong either. My opinion is related only to the opinion which began this thread, the one of the journalist.
