That's what fasion means. What is popular.
I also don't see any reason to address it. As long as its deemed socially acceptable, let them wear what they want.

Lol, I used to. I wear mostly jeans but wear fashionable dhirs and shoes. The main thing is that I dress more or less for comfort and dont want anybody to like be cause of my clothes.

Learning, GO You!
people in America are way too obsesed with what is popular. this year some of the "fasonable" clothes look horrible to me, but i know that the majority of people will wear them just because everyone else is. it is good that there are still people out there with independdant minds.

Fashion is, if you would let that on slip please, just a way of letting other people make your style (i.e. letting other people do the thinking for you). Additionally it is (a least in some places) a status symbol.
Since this is my opinion I don't care about fashion.

I see fashion is a different way. Someone creates fashion. I see it as one of the art forms. It takes vision to create something...and whether that vision is painting the Mona Lisa, designing one of the world wonders or sewing together a skirt, it was someone envisioning something they thought would mean something to someone. Fashion can be seen as something superficial or you can use your vision to express yourself with that you wear. I think it's quite fascinating.

I think there are individuals who follow fashion as a way to mark their importance or station since they can afford the name brands. There are others that buy it just because they like it and its as simple as that. I don't believe fashion and artistic expression go together necessarily though on a personal level. I mean to me, I wear clothes that match my mood that day, that I feel comfortable and confident in, that I know I look good in. But half the time I think most of the "fashion" clothes look ridiculous. Its all about expressing myself and whats fashionable doesn't have any effect on who I am as a person so it doesn't effect how I look. If fashion conincides with what I wear at times then its by complete coincidence. Truthfully though, there are times (alot lately) where I get so caught up in intellectual and volunteering pursuits that I look like a bum alot cuz I just don't have the time for frivolousness.

I mostly think that fashion is part of a giant machine that's designed to keep people spending their money on new things they don't actually need. Using your creativity to put outfits together is one thing, but spending hours looking at models and fashion magazines is something entirely different. Think about it. These fashion designers are less artists than they are business (wo)men - their number one concern is to make people buy their clothes. For this reason it is in their interest to brain-wash you, make you think that the clothes you wear reflect the kind of person you are, your status, your beauty. The idea that some people spend $4000 on a cotton dress because it has a fancy label, while children die of hunger all over the world, makes me sick.

fashion itself is an elite construct..it is not meant for the commons...commons merely follow it..thus fashion is a lead maintained by handful elite and is folllowed by the masses.. well, the issue han nothing to do with whether it should be addressed!

Here you are talking about COMMERCIAL FASHION
Fashion is culture!!
For example; in Morocco we've an anual fashion show called "Cafton" Which brings together national & international cultures all together.
Concerning national ones, we can see Arab, Berber, Indalusian... dresses. As we can see designs by our Muslim, Jew... citizens. Internationally, participants come from India, Algeria, Tunisia...

i substantially agree with what you have said.. i also think that fashion and its sisters like cosmetics and all such arrangements which are aligned to it actually play with individuals identity and self image/perception..these fashion statements communicate what you are not and what you should be like!!! ...very dominant and arrogant indeed... i just dont understand why people cannot see through such hidden agendas..moreover these dominant fashion statements are destroying the indignous fashions which later is highjaked by the very dominant fashion houses and generate huge amount of wealth..

Hurray a post about fashion! =P
Hmms fashion is one of those things that no one can really decide on because there are so many ways you can choose to do something like this.
One person may view fashion as a scheme to get the money of its consumers who pay for outlandishly priced merchandise, and therefore they will only buy clothing as a means of covering themselves.
Others may see fashion as creative way to express yourself; and cost won't be a deciding factor to them.
All in all, I think it all comes down to the individual and what their perceptions are =)
