Health?
May 7, 2003 - 02:24 AM

I was wondering if anyone has any insight into alternative perspectives on health. There seems to be a consensus in North America that health is merely the wellness of our physical bodies. We all know that emotional, mental and spirtual well-being are essential to all-round health, but is there anything else that should be known about what health means? For example, I'm going to be getting into Reiki soon. For anyone who doesn't know, it's an approach to health involving the body's energy and life force.

Well, the asian community stresses balance lifestyle to promote health. Whether it be diet, exercise, work, or leisure too much or too little is a bad thing

In Asia, a healthy person means someone with healthy body and spirit.Becuz for us body and spirit are not separated but connected to operate and keep us alive. That is why in Asia many people do not go to gym but to yoga, taichi, do not take western medicine but use traditional therapy like accupunture, massages. Cuz when you do yoga, taichi its is not only to improve your muscles but also uplift your spirit. As for massage, touching is very important and spiritual, not only heal the real pains but also the touching is a soulful healing.

We also take care specially our hair and skin becuz we believe they are not only express how healthy we are, but also how we are awared of your own body, if we are soulful and have conscience in our personality.

Many western people say that Asian people often look younger than their age and they look youthful even when they get old. Thaz is because Asian people are very awared of their body-soul healthy harmony. in many countries in Asia, there are the same proverb saying : a smile worth 10 tablets of medicine. Thaz express how important mental health is to improve physical health in Asian view.

On eating, Asian people eat with much more conscience than western people. They dont just grasp fast food and swallow without chewing 7 times hehe.IN countries like Japan,Korea, China they have tea ceremony where you can see how complicated the process of drinking is. Asian people are very selective in selecting food and ingredients for cooking. For each season, they choose different kinds of vegetables, flowers for cooking. This not only improve their health but also part of their culture- the thing that make their life soulful.Thats why Asian people look slim mostly but have quite cool strength i think.

I dont go to gym and i feel awesomely healthy smile

Anouk, thanks for the post. Lan Anh, I completely agree with everything you wrote.

I don't mean to change the tone of this discussion too much, because I think everything that we are talking about is important and interesting, but what I'm curious about is this: We are a product of our time, our generation. Just as the social, environmental and scientific climates were different in the past with people living among them, we too are living in a period of time just like any other, among our own social, environmental and scientific realities. As knowledge expanded, so too did our understanding and perspective on things, not the least of which is health. However, this process that characterizes and shapes our perspective and understanding is by nature continuosly evolving. So then by extension of this, what else could there be for us to understand about health?
This is sort of what I wanted to say.

I mean, is there something we can learn from these? Is there something important about health that we're neglecting or simply generally not aware of, similar to when knowledge of cells, bacteria etc. was not as advanced as it is now?

Here in the western world there is this medical approach to health and well-being. There are drastically different approaches to health in the eastern world. Beyond this, our knowledge of health is a product of both what we can conceive and what we can support through science. But if our knowledge of health derives from these two streams alone, then could there be more to health that we are not conscious of? Different perspectives on health across the world serve to broaden our understanding of illness and well-being, but is it possible there is anything beyond this even that we remain ignorant of?

HIV VIRUS AND YOUNG BUSINESS OWNERS IN AFRICA.
May 10, 2003 - 05:36 AM

AIDS is one modern day disease that the present
medical geniuses has not been able to provide a cure
for. Though the virus (HIV) causing this great and
grave HAVOC against mankind has been successful
diagnosed, but experts in the field of medicine has
not succeeded in killing this tough virus without
killing its victim.

The most threatened group of people in Africa are
those in the business community. It is a well-known
fact, that most commercial sex workers in Africa
stands the risk of been exposed to HIV virus, but
young African Business owners and executives are of
equal concern, because of the grave dangers associated
with untimely demise of this special class of
Africans. Going by the dynamic nature of the business
world, it is not difficult to see young business
executives taking out their passion for a light and
unprotected sex-game with commercial sex workers.

The future of Africa's economic bliss in this
INFORMATION AGE rest on the shoulders of this group of
people. Young business owners are the LIFE-WIRE of
Africa's frail economic system. So Africa cannot
afford to sit back with a big smile and watch this
virus shrink the already little population of business
men and women. It cannot hold the HIV scourge, reason
been that young people are not adequately armed
with HIV VIRUS INFORMATION and the WRATH OF AIDS.
Thousands of young business owners and potential
entrepreneurs are already exposed to this deadly
virus. The most shocking NEWS is that African
Governments has no HEALTH BLUEPRINT on how to jointly
fight this global disease with the most informed
group's of our time.

The information community can do a lot to help the
business community in the area of well researched and
evident-based HIV VIRUS information. These information
will serve as the first wall of defense against the
ever increasing and advancing forces of the AIDS/HIV
combined soldiers. Business people hardly create the
time to study health journals and newsletters, but a
well researched and concise information on how
diseases
can slow down their progress and retard their drive
for profit could act as a bait for them to read and
listen to what the information community has to say on
health issues. HEALTH IS WEALTH, and the wealth of the

future of Africa's economy rest on the broad shoulders
of its growing population of young and vibrant
entrepreneurs.

It is quite a shock to know that a thing so small can
wreck and threaten the destiny of a thing so big. Man,
by all standards, cannot be compared to a little
brainless creature as the HIV virus. The virus though
invisible to the human eyes, expect with the aid of a
powerful electromagnetic microscope is putting our
very existence on the RED ALERT. Man must come
together in unison and let all contribute their
quarters on the way and ways to arrest the advances of
the TINY SOULESS CREATURE.

umm i think one of the major difference between past generations n our time is the kind of sickness. IN the past, people died at earlier age,had physical illness because they did not have understanding about genes,ADNS,did now know what their food contains etc like we do today. But i think in the past, people are more connected to nature. Sometimes their sickness are healed by nature both physically and spiritually. And becuz they had such a strong connection and vibration with nature and life that they seemed to have less fear about sickness. If wouldnt make such a big fuss about sars like we do, for example hehe.

I think people of our generation seem to have more mental illness than physical illness. We have medicine that can cure the body, modern technology that can do magical operations. But its hard to find medicine for our mind and spirit.Mental illness is a kind of invisible illness that spreading among our generations becuz we are too stressed with so much fear and so much shocking events happening in daily life.People seems to lose the healthy balance, the yin yang circle, the circle of life spirit.

so well, that is to say, people in the past died at an earlier but in some way they were healthier.Today we live longer but our bodies get tired and sick earlier. Plus people are so dependent on colorful tablets and magical technology, while forgetting the importance of inner health which is only good when u have a healthy spirit and mind.
