Journalist Larissa Arap Imprisoned in Psychiatric Hospital

A Russian journalist, Larissa Arap, who reported on the poor conditions in children's psychiatric hospitals in the Murmansk area, has herself been arrested and sent to a pychiatric hospital where she has been beaten, given psychiatric drugs, and tied to a bed. She has been kept there since July 5th.

She apparently went for a routine physical exam required to get her driver's license renewed and there she was arrested. She had written a story on June 8th alledging children at psychiatric hospitals were subjected to electric shocks and were beaten and raped.
A Russian district court has okayed her "compulsory treatment."
This abuse of psychiatric hospitals to silence opponents is very reminiscent of the abuse during the Soviet Union era, when political dissidents and people applying to emigrate from the Soviet Union were locked up and given psychotropic drugs to pacify them.
What can we do to help Ms. Arap? A possibility is to express our concern for Ms. Arap's safety and a polite request for her immediate release from the psychiatric hospital. The article gives many FAX numbers and addresses, but interestingly, one e-mail address, that of the President of Russia, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin:
president@gov.ru
Or we can just do nothing and forget about her...

I share the pain of those people who sacrifice themselves for helping humanity, to abolish oppression, and struggle for justice. This is something serious, and society has to do something.

Unfortunately, the e-mail address I gave for President Putin doesn't work. It came back "Mailer Deamon".
There is this e-mail form for the Presidential Executive Office:
