According to Malcolm S. Forbes, the purpose of Education is to replace an empty mind with an open one. Is this really the essence of education? What is your opinion.

This is a funny thing to discuss...I have been thinking about this tabula rasa-kind of way to look at education, and I cannot agree.
I believe we come to this world to experience, and to rememeber again, things we already know, but had forgotten. We are here as adults to assist and guide the development of children, which finally comes by all by itself. The most natural thing for children is to want to learn, we don't have to force them to it! But many generations have thought it the other way around, that children have to be educated, moulded, transformed.
The state of the world prove to me that the moulding has gone totally wrong. Imagine if we, when starting our fresh days of adulthood, didn't have to struggle to find back to our identity and true essence, imagine if we from the start were allowed to develop our own sense of self and to stand strong in healthy personal values and guided by sound role models in adult conduct, then we wouldn't spend 20 years of our lives trying to figure it all our again.
This is what I wish for next generation, I hope they will be allowed to be what they are and develop their pure strength and wisdom, so they can affect a change and show us that our educational models were wrong: children need guidance to learn what they need/want to learn, not to be forced to learn what they don't need.
