UN warns it cannot afford to feed the world

The United Nations World Food Programme has warned that rising food prices are threatening its ability to feed the roughly 90 million people around the world that it helps, urging donors to boost their contributions. One concern is that growing demand for biofuel, which uses grain as an energy source, is pushing up food prices.

give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. teach a man to fish (responsibly) and he'll eat forever.
perhaps we could help those in need to become more self sufficient? (i know this won't work in emergency situations, but maybe a focus on giving and charity organizations in the media could cover the cost of what the UN can't?)

I dont think the WFP was conceived to feed the world. I think it was rather conceived to make urgent intervention to prevent the worse.
countries have to step up their efforts to feed themselves. When they have done enough and all they could, then the outside help will come.

Ya you are right to teach how to fish? But nobody can fish in hunger and starvation. So, it needs both fish and how to fish at same time.
