There has been number of discussons on and around establishing one single State in Afica , the fundamematal question is that , is Africa ready to have one President, and if is not ready , what should then be done to make sure is ready , Africa is one of the continent that has been ravaged by lot of internal conflicts that has for sometime caused this continent natural resources and development , i therefore believe that we need to broadly discuss this issue as young Africans. I therefore believe we need to say lets make sure young people in Africa becomes agent of change in making sure that we build firstly a continent to be admired by many and in the procesesses will then say lets have one president

Personally, I don't see it being possible to have one united Africa, at least not any time soon. First, the contient is so large that having one ruling figure would be difficult. Second, there are so many varied ethnic, cultural, religious and linguistic groups in Africa that finding a way to "unite" them all would be quite challenging. Third, when you have some relatively stable and economically viable countries and then some countries with struggling economies and social strife, there is little incentive for the "richer" countries to take on the burden of caring for the others. I'm not saying this is right, just how things usually go.
Also, what good would it really serve, is what I want to know? I'd be interested to hear what proponents are saying. I honestly can't think of any reasons why having one united Africa would be good so I hope someone can illuminate me Maybe I'll change my mind with some good arguments.

in my opiniions, the one united Africa would do good if it come true.
First, the contient is less large than Russia, so it is posible in it size;
Second, instead of force, Talk with each other may help people in Africa. yes, finding a way to "unite" them all would be quite challenging, but I did not see any "United States" who born to the world easily, so there are problem, but we can solve out them. anyway, it need long time.
Third, yes, there is a gap between the rich and the poor, so there is a chance for them to cooperate with each other.otherwise there would be competition among them.
anyway, the united Africa may reduce the tax between boundarys and there would be more talk among those nations to solve the problem between tham.
So, I hope there is one United States of Africa!
I wish someelse can give me some arguments.

Well, the only problem I forseen in this issue is that of our African mantality in Superiority and looking down among ourselves...if not what is big deal having one "P"??? And as the saying always says "Two heads are better than one".
One more point, Africa will not develop rapidly without uniting, rather some nations will develop while some will remain undevelop due to lack of collaboration

Hi Becky, Saying so many varied ethnic, cultural, religious and linguistic groups are problems to unite Africa, infact I must not agreeing with you because if people can come together to learn other's culture and way of life will enable to understand and people will then livie in peace. for example, America today comprises of many nation as well as cultures and the situation made it easier for people understanding each other. And not only that, it helps to promote culture itself and unity.

My only problem with it would be what language would be their main language? Perhaps 3 or 5 main countries would be better, splitting it into zones? IT would be a great idea, yes.

This is one area in which we all should try to be realistic and seperate fact from fiction. The fact is Africa is only a geographically homogenous entity. Racially and culturally it stands pieces apart. Advocating for a united Africa under a common ruler, be he/she a democrat or dictator does little else than highligting the irreconsiliable demacation between fact and fiction.
First, as somebody Highlited their is the problem of language. The diversirty of her cultural totality may not also be helpful to the project of a united AFrica. at its best this project will produce a an artificial state with disintergrated but forced to stick components. The Nigerian state with its attendendant conflicts suspicions, ethnic unreasts should be set in sight as a miniature of this kind of forced state.

I believe that it might be possible. There are many preliminary conditions that will have to fulfilled before this possibility can even be considered.
However, as things stand now, it doesn't make much sense to consider such a possibility in a current African geo-political field and conflicting situations all over the continent.

I believe if african is joined under one major rule the risk is run of placing all african countries below the poverty line. whilst african states have many problems at this time some countries are, economically speaking, surviving quite well compared to international standards. Perhaps the problem should be isolated instead of spread out, by keeping some african states economically strong assistance is able to be given to those struggling in this department.

Africa is not ready yet for a United States, this can be explained by the way NEPAD is performing, i've seen the four prisident pionners of this NEPAD, every one has its own version of what NEPAD should be such President of Senegal, South Africa, Aligeria and son on. For me i use NEPAD as in indicator to show how Africa can join together and have the same ambitions and then move as we all wish.
i here don't in all the case deny that africa cannot form one Nation but this will take many years and leaders which aim high not those which look only their own interests. This will be also a hard struggle for young people because our parents have acheived or missed what their runned after long years ago, and for that they are no longer motivated to take a new adventure.
