Is Youth Development Understood?

It looks like many countries and ministers and Number of organistaion does not seem to be understanding youth development,young people at all does have to chant or picket that their issues to be adressed , in number of instances where they are conferences , you discover that young people are a potion of the whole delagets , when you check the issues you then realise that all the discussions are in reference with issues of young people , perhaps get this thing clearly , are young people represented on United Nations? this a very important Question and relevant to the devlopmenatl discourse

I think youth development has not really been understood here in Nigeria because a lot of the govt agencies that have been created in Nigeria have not really fullfilled the purposes for which they were created.Lets take NAPEP for an example it is meant to alleviate poverty by impacting skills into youths so that they could be self employed by vitue of the skills they have aquired. But it has not still been able to reduce unemployment or rather it is not able to cope with the population, because the amount of unemployed youths is still on the rise.
The govt should embark on other programs to curb the upsurge ofunemployment. A ministry should be created for them not only at the federal level but also at the state and local govt levels where they will be the ones to make the decisions for their future development.

This is a relevant issue. In fact youth are forgotten, and even when governements create a special ministry for them, this always relates to sport or leisure. I mean that in most african countries there is a "MINISTRY OF YOUTH AND SPORT / LEISURE"
I personnally think that the reason for this is that our Gouvernements are not aware of the intellectual awakening being acheived by youths; and it is up to us to show it.
This should be a challenge for us to show by credible acts and constant involvement in political decisions; not only at the local, but at the regional and international levels; that we are no more those young innocents people that were once just interested in sport and leisure, but far, we do realise that we will have to lead the wold tomorow, and so we will have to take the responsability of today's actions in the futur, and respond to anything being done prsently. How shall this be possible if we are put aside?
This, present leaders need to understand.

I think that the problem is that youth development isn't focused i nthe right areas. There is so much development availble for the youth of developed countries, many of us are given support and encouragement but there isn't enough in developing countries. As part of stopping the cycle f poverty more youth development needs to be done, not just in education, but in promoting the confidence and abilities of young people so that they can lead their countries into the future.
