Woow!! we are growing!!
November 4, 2001 - 01:53 AM

This is what Cameroon youths thought could never be part of them;"An organisation of Youths, with same goals and objectives, controled by youths in all aspects".
Our dreams have finally come true;God is great. The team is now legally known by the Cameroon government and our actions as from today will never be restricted nor limitted as they have been at first. We have the full rights to operate and carry out our plans.
We call on all the other TIG teams arround the world to join hands with us to take this dream of ours GLOBAL,because our team has decided to take all it's actions global. Therefore, we are "TakingITGlobal".
Special thanks goes to Jenni, Jarra, Derek, Mike, Patra, Camilla, Tracey(L),Breslin, and all those who gave us their time and surport, most especially to Marie-Claude Rioux;Bureau d'appai a la cooperation Canadienne au Cameroun and Tricia Doughty;SIECUS-International Programs Associate,USA.
We pray you do not relent your efforts towards us, which we really need as we grow older and older in the field of TIG.
Best regards to you all.

African Youth
November 7, 2001 - 05:13 AM

Hi, I am Alexandra from Zimbabwe. Glad to know there are other people from Africa in TIG. The problem is how do we give African youth voice.

On one hand I am very worried about the future of Africa, and on the other I am also very hopeful. In Africa we really need an active youth branch of the African Union or some other similar otagnization to take an interest in the youth of Africa and ensure their saftey, education, and physical and psychological well being. I get scared when I see so many young children living alone on the streets. I get scared for the children, I get scared for our future.

Leadership and growth and developemnt activities for African youth seem somwhat limited. These types of activities rarely come along and when they do a lack of personal of governmental resources is handicapping Africa's future. Likewise, so is nepotism and corruption. For example, in Zimbabwe there is always money for the children of government officals to attend schools oveseas, and conferences and other great opportunities, but not for the average youth, who may even be more deserving in terms of things they have accomplished, and have done so under difficult circumstances.

How can we youth in Africa have our voice heard and not only heard but recognized as a legitimate voice? Do we African Youth need to set up an organization dedicated to the upliftment of African Youth and to having their voice heard? Would an organization such as the UN help in that process? I once wrote to the UN Secretary General about this and I thought he would be interested because he was from Africa, but he never responded. What is the next step? I am one of the few African youth who can even access a computer, and I can only do it because I am in USA right now. In Zimbabwe I was unable to. How can we get the voice of African youth heard? How can we repesent our brothers and sisters?

Wireless Internet?
November 7, 2001 - 10:06 AM

Alexandra -

What is the spread of cell phones in Zimbabwe? I read often that cell phones and the wireless web may be a quicker path to the internet in the developing world.

I have only to more developed countries (Korea and Sweden), so my experience is more limited. Good luck with TIG.

Cell phones in Zimbabwe
November 8, 2001 - 01:32 AM

Most people in Zimbabwe have no access to phones. Cell or otherwise. The majority of people in my country can not afford such things! But that is the voice I want to let be heard, the voice of the voiceless, not the voice of those who have a voice already and live privilaged lifestyles.

Alexandra -

Thank you for clarifying the situation in central Africa. It is my hope that you will give voices to those we so often forget.

Cell phones etc

Zimbabwe is not in Central Africa. I can really only represent my own voice, not the voice of others. I can say what I think they would want me to say, but really I can not speak for them. They need to have their own voice.

Geographically Embarassed
November 8, 2001 - 12:02 PM

Alexandra -

Just checked the map. I was confused with Congo (formerly Zaire). I knew that Zimbabwe was named for the ancient civilization that lived there before, however I thought it was closer to the center. I see now it is in the south near Zambia.

Good thing I saw the Ballet du Senegal in Connecticut. I probably would have ended up in Cairo if I tried to find Senegal (western Africa SW of Mauritania, Francophone?). ;-)

we the youth are the answer to our own issues!
October 11, 2002 - 03:21 AM

It's always great to see any Youth from any part of the world with a passion and a vision to make a difference that is positive and great. smile I often reflect on issues we have and i always seem to come to one conclusion (it might be or might not be correct but I always get to the conclusion that "We can only rely on ourseleves as the youth to give ourselves a voice". Ideas, dreams and ambitions that youth have is an untapped knowledge pool that is craving to be ventured and explored.

This is the reason I respect and love TIG. It has become a platform that will give us an oppourtunity to express, and showcase ourselves without biased editing and censorship. A community to build our self confidence and great friends to keep us focused yet allow us to dream. The answers are with us. We can be the voices and the messengers of the 'voiceless'. Check out the http://connect.takingitglobal.org and select a country. Be that advocate and speak for those who can't speak for themselves.

More Involvement
October 17, 2002 - 09:51 AM

Dear Friends,

It keeps ringing, and ringing........ Why is that most of us keeps arm's length from getting involved in TIG in itself.
It not good enough for us all to enjoy the benefits of this wonderful global network, when we can not contribute our own quota in bringing the voices of millions of youth to the global stage.
Remember, we are a major stakeholder in the planet of our future. We need to be more involved in this network, as we all focus on the big picture. A picture of a sustainable future.
Let all join hands in using this network to bring our voices to the global stage.
