Importants of youths in development
June 19, 2007 - 09:54 AM

Developing countries which invest in better education, healthcare, and job training for their record numbers of young people between the ages of 12 and 24 years of age, could produce surging economic growth and sharply reduced poverty, according to a new World Bank report launched at the Bank's Annual Meetings in Singapore.
However, failure to seize this opportunity to train them more effectively for the workplace, and to be active citizens, could lead to widespread disillusionment and social tensions.
How do you see this trend affecting young people in Africa.

Plato Africa is coming of age, alot of things are done these days to address the socio-economic trends.

Nations that have a planned and coordinated education network and have education of children topmost on its agenda, they surely stand to reap the benefits eventually.
For those others that the government is still trying to find its bearing, such as is the case in Nigeria, I am quite pessimistic about us capturing the real benefits from the said prediction. It would sound as though I have no faith in the reform agenda of Government here in Nigeria, or that I have little faith in the competence or abilities of Mr president Yar'Adua, but no to both.
I am just a realsit who likes to mirror events as they appear. For the reform in Nigeria to receive the kind of turbulence it has received in the past 8years, and even worse we do not know yet what direction education is taking, I believe I would be fair enough to be pessimistic.
I hope thaty we get serious real soon, to avoid widening the vacuum that currently exists in our education system here.

Yes alot going on, addressing the socio-economic trends.
What do you think of Union Government for Africa, can this in any way act as a catalyst to our advancing in socio-economic issues?
Can this help African states to seat together and plan how to govern and manage their resourse by themselves, maybe realizing much where youths can fix in interms of employment and development?
I'm thinking if Nigeria for example can expressly see the reason for been blessed by resourse in the same room will now see it's responsiblities for herself and other African nations and as much as more heads are better than one, then matters must be solidly agree within ourselves before coming to international community. Europe and Americans dance on the same tune and Africa too must unite ourselves to face our challanges in nothing but one direction, by doing this we give our brethern nations developing hands hence all of us will then grow up at the same time.<
