Starting a foundation/fund for young people - tips? ideas? resources?

Hi all,
I'm thinking of setting up a fund or foundation to provide grants to young people. However, I'm not sure how to really go about that.
This will be based in Malaysia, but I'm open to resources from anywhere.
What do I do? Where do I begin? Any ideas for people and places I should look up?
thanks
B*B, Tiara

Before that you MUSTwrite out what you want to do. Then we will have to find all the laws as it relates to what you want to do.
Then find someone or persons who will work with you to get the result you want.
Need more help contact me.

I think that's a lovely idea! I work with youth in Zimbabwe with an NGO and would be pleased to assisit you in whatever way possible. I wonder if you have put all your ideas on paper and have a project concept done. Just let me know where you are in terms of the plan so that I know where to chip in - if it's okay with you.

This is really a beautifull idea. I have been into NGO activity for upwards of 10years in a developing country, Nigeria and I know what is like to source for funds for youth, health, women & gender activities. I also know that the level of suspicion is high amoung would-be donors, except you have really proved your worth one way or the other to be credible. However, there are lots of youth in developing nations that are quite ambitious to make a change in their imediate environs and are mostly restricted by the availability of funds or other forms of support that require funding. I therefore believe that you are about to embark on a journey into an area that would certainly be welcome.
I am currently doing my PhD in fish Nutrition in a university here in Malaysia and would want to give you some hints, from my own experience as follows:
1. It is important to identify a particular area that you are interested in (youth and health, youth restiveness, youth and education etc).
2. You will then narrow your fund raising initiative to address a specific program in the area of your interest (e.g if you choose youth and Health, are you interested in raising funds to assist as many young people as posible from developing nations to attend as many international conferences as posible on HIV/AIDS for instance?).
3. You can then have a web site built, bearing a name of the initiative you are hoping to help address. On the web site, I believe you should be able to communicate to as many would-be donors as posible. It is on the same site that young people you are trying to reach would know what you are doing and reach you. You can also put testimonials of those who benegit from your initiative there, while advertising the source of donations you receive. This makes you as transparent as posible.
4. You can then proceed to make a list of potential donors, locally first then internationally and planning how you will reach them. You should advance good reasons why you should be trusted to deliver what you have promised on your web site.
5. Make provisions for regional (or country) contact persons, so that applications for grants are vetted by certain organizations that have proven to be credible in the past, to avoid funds reaching wrong people.
I want to personally praise you.
