[Poll] How can youth in developed countries best assist?

Hi, I was just wondering if I could get some feedback from students across the world about the problems they face when creating development initiatives.
Is it merely a financial burden? Or is it lack of ideas? Whatever it may be, I would like to know how I can help the most effective way possible.
Thanks!

Hi,
This is a very nice discussion.
Although I voted for "Fundraising" as an important issue in thesuccess of development and voluntary initiatives, I think there are other points that should be considered.
In the success of any project, a strong team working and collaboration attitude among the Project Members, play an important role in the success of teh project.
Besides, the current policy and social conditions in any country can affect the whole project success.
Bests,
Mostafa

To cut the long story short, I believe continous assistance and partnesrhip of the foreigners in project teams, and forming international project teams can be veyhelpful. Coz the sharing of knowldge, experiences and skills can be very affective for project achievemen t.

In my opinion, it is crucial that there is constant communication with youth from developing countries.
It helps guide our initiatives here to help create a synergy between our groups.
This leads to more effective, efficient, and concerted efforts.
Anyone else have any thoughts??

I will agree with you that communication is key, however I personally feel that in order to create a successful development initiative, you need to experience the country and the culture for yourself. Communicating with other youth in the region you are working on will help and will give you some valuable insight, but actually living in the environment will give you more direction with your initiative and may actually redirect your focus altogether. Not to mention, you will have the opportunity to create some valuable contacts in the area that you may be able to get funding from in the future.

I definitely see the value in all of your opinions.
I want to make sure that my organization's efforts are not misguided. We work very hard here, and it would be a shame if it was for the wrong thing. Thus, I thought this poll may help me create a network with others that can help us figure out what should be done.
I love traveling, but again, as a student, gaining access to funds is very tough. Maybe in the future I will have the chance to experience certain countries first hand, although I have been to a handful of developing nations already. It is very eye-opening and inspiring to see all the work that is being done in these countries.

Also, I am curious to know what each country's youth feel are their most pressing and urgent issues. I would like to see if they are the same as I perceive here or not.
Would anybody like to speak about their experiences?

[quote]
i really voted for fundraising...
i am from the philippines specially here in silliman...we are organizing this MDG summit for young filipino leaders and our main problem would definitely funds...we are expecting to have 200 to 300 delegates all over the visayas so we really need to have a big sum of money to make the program a successfull one...
that is the reason...the summit would not only tackles about leadership but also teaching the participants the important of MDG...

To me, I feel, It's more of a financial problem than lack of ideas, policy change etc. I'm from Africa and Nigeria to be precise and I discovered that there are enough young talented people with brilliant ideas that could change our pathetic economic situation, but they seems restricted to forge ahead and be a change due to lack of adequate finances.
