Why is Youtube so popular ?

Why are people glued to the Youtube ?
What effect does Youtube have on culture and society?
How many hours/day do you spend watching or posting videos on Youtube?
Do you use it for purely leisure purposes?
I read these rather strong views on Youtube online here and that is why I am posing these questions.*

always known that getting idea is better than getting money, also the time of this idea sometimes make difference.
and that what happened with youtube and others, every one search for the something that can help the internet user or make him have some fun.
Youtube became the most popular cause it was having idea in the proper time and also now it has the bigest videos database in different fields.

Firstly, "curiosity"..
Usually, when people want to have fun, they use it. Especially, I use it for watching funny videos or music videos..
When you start watching some videos, you want to see others too... And it takes times.. Therefore, when we start watching, we should control ourselves

I like it because it has clips from TV shows and movies that I enjoy. i only use it occasionally though.
I don't watch any of the user videos, but it seems like the widespread video blogging (with video responses) is naturally just the next level of blogging. It is really easy to upload videos and the restrictions are pretty lax, so I think YouTube is great for people who feel the need to express themselves through that media. And a whole culture has developed out of it - my friend told me there are even YouTube awards for "Best Series," etc.

First it gives people an outlet to post or see videos you won't otherwise be able to see via normal means.
Second, I can't really say what effetc it has on culture and society, but I am aware that some of the videos bring awareness of what is happenign around the world and some of it many are not too pleased about. It gives a voice to those who were once voiceless so to speak.
Third, I hardly go there unless a friend send me a video to look at or a member of forums I frequent post one.

youtube is a nice place to watch videos made by users or just some parts of some shows, songs or episodes.
For example I was interested why Rosey O'Donnell left the View so I search on youtube for that episode.
Its a place where people can have the freedom to express themselves and be seen, heard and commented on all over the world.
One of my favourties is Ummah Films ...that guy is hilarious but gives a message in the end. check it out
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=ummah+films&search=Search
Personally I posted two videos about the reaction of the Egyptians when they wont the Africa cup of Nations.
As long as people don't abuse the website then its a great place to share and watch videos

I think people love youtube because anyone can send in videos and you can pretty much find anything on there that will interest you. Not only that, but i guess in a way it gives whoever sends in their videos a sense of empowerment knowing that they can in a way influence people with their voice or opinion or just make people laugh.

Youtube's success is much like the internet's success i think... because it has no boundaries, no corporate agenda, by the people for the people, and a chance to be heard for all.

YouTube covers a lot of bases. I think it's the ease with which people can participate.
You have everything on YouTube from 80s commercials to music videos. I personally only visit YouTube when people send me links, but I certainly enjoy it.
It's entertainment, it's news, it's pop culture, it's everything and it's easy for people to get into because they don't have to read anything.
It also brings to life events we may read about in the news or on other websites. It's one thing to picture it in your mind, but to be able to see it, it opens up new doorways.
I'm all for it.

I think that people are so 'glued' onto Youtube because of the ability to access almost any kind of video imaginable.
As far as effects on cultures & societies, I think that Youtube makes people in the world more globalized, as now you can easily watch a video from someone halfway across the globe.
I'd say, I spend approx. 3 hours a day on Youtube. Especially when you have a busy schedule, its a great place to catch up on TV shows you may have missed during the week, etc.
Youtube on a particular occasion has helped me in a non-leisure way. In the 11th grade I had to use Youtube to find the Orson Welle's version of the banquet scene in William Shakespeare's MacBeth; which thankfully was actually on Youtube

Why are people glued to the Youtube ?
My Answer - cos u can find any video that u want to watch right from old movie clippings to the latest one. You can also watch daily soap opera episodes like F.Ri.E.N.D.S. and also their bloopers. I guess its one the best entertaining networks online.
What effect does Youtube have on culture and society?
My Answer - Youtube has a lot of impact on the people, especially on the teenagers. How does it affect them depends on how much aware their parents are about them.
How many hours/day do you spend watching or posting videos on Youtube?
My Answer - On an average, 2-3 hours in a day, cos i cant use it in my office.
Do you use it for purely leisure purposes?
My Answer - Ya, I guess so. I watch video songs and bloopers. They are a real fun.
Cheers
Andy

Youtube is much more than a site dedicated to purely leisure activities such as watching or listening to your favourite music videos or viewing hilarious bloopers. I believe that the future of Youtube is in education. Even today you can find countless videos posted by users with knowledge about a specific subject. If you want to learn how to play a cover of your favourite song, you can find it on youtube. How about learning how to create a website? HTML? That's on Youtube too. looking for a new recipe? Yep, you can find it on Youtube. If Youtube users continue to create educational videos like this, I can see myself consulting the website for answers on a regular basis. Perhaps educators should look at youtube and realize the full potential this website has to offer.

Though I didn't like Youtube before, now I have begun to appreciate it because I can find old cartoon episodes. I spend maybe 2 or 3 hours in a month watching u-tube because I don't have the patience to wait for a video to load. I view videos about religion, cartoon episodes & also videos related to the environment.
I think people are glued to YT because it gives them access and freedom to media that was previously restricted. And its for free.
Well, YT serves as a platform for budding musicians, makeup artists, wannabe stars etc. With YT, people have the freedom to post their personal views and films wihtout censorship. So that makes an impact on what kind of information people get from YT.
