The African Union Government is possible. It all calls for genuine committment of our leaders, and they should not be exploited by neo-colonial rules from the North countries.
What we mostly need in Africa is to fully exploit our potentials in all fields of development. For instance we need to add value to our products to fasten our economic growth. Why should our people fight each other? We need enduring love to enhance peace!
We need to trade more with the East countries for they have shown their goodwill for our Africa development in the past.
Its possible for United Africa no matter how long it takes!

I thin the plan on a United states of Africa which is the Union Government is based on copying the model of the European Union.
Do we need to merge and be under the sae government before we begin to help each other as African countries.?
I do not think so!

You're right about the unified government being of limited use by itself, but economics make it a sound idea nonetheless. The EU worked because euros and open borders made commerce much easier. Africa has many problems, but most of them trace back to economics and lack thereof.

I do not think it should be a union like the EU - for the simple reason that the EU hasn't been reolized yet -
I frankly do not think the Europeans should be trying to create a Union either -
it should be a confederacy - this allows more autonomy and flexibility to the member states -
in the US a Union was possible because the entire country was new - everyone spoke the same language - the States did not have hundreds of years of history warring with eachother -
so it was an entirely different situation -
do you really think all these African countries are going to give up their individual armies? or have a common foreign policy?
given the conflicts going on now - the divided loyalties -
Ethiopia is a more western oriented Christian culture - its neighbor Somalia is an Islamic country more closely tied to the likes of Iran
the entire continent has so many different religions, economic loyalties, tribal associations, languages...
I think a confederacy makes much more sense -
I think that is attainable - where as a union is setting the bar too high - it is setting yourself up for failure.
