Women constitute slightly more than half of the world population. Their contribution to the social and economic development of societies is also more than half as compared to that of men by virtue of their dual roles in the productive and reproductive spheres. Yet
their participation in formal political structures and processes, where decisions regarding the use of societal resources generated by both men and women are made, remains insignificant. Presently, women’s representation in legislatures around the world is 15%. Despite the pronounced commitment of the international community to gender
equality and to the bridging the gender gap in the formal political arena, reinforced by the Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW)
and the Beijing Platform of Action, there are only twelve countries where women hold 33% of more seats in the parliament.A critical way of promoting gender equality is in the empowerment of women with a focus on identifying and redressing power imbalances and giving women more autonomy to manage their own lives.

I believe that one way for women to be empowered is enabling them with a voice. Make them more confident about themselves and tell them that they are the building blocks of society, because we truly are. Women are the foundation of the world. They bring leaders into the world and shape them in their unique image. Women have a lot to be proud of!

I think that you are right, it seems that women in general do not join into politics mid life. It seems that if women are not in politics at a young age they are hesitant to join. nerdy

I believe that women can make a difference in the world of politics. They were the ones who honed the leaders of our land and for sure, giving them a seat in the government office will help in setting things right. cool

we can talk about how to empower women in politics. My view is dat they remain the ones to show the will and zeal to establish themselves in the political sphere. Than wait for men to formulate the path for them. A situation that have many drawbacks. Women need to stand up and unveil their potential. This wil avoid them to be used by male politicians in the discourse

The education of a girl child should be the premodial substance in building self confidence in a girl child. Once as an enlightened girl, the confidence to command charismatic attributes follow immidietely. It is a gradual process and thus follows with maturity and not by sight.Maturity make this more composed and responsible. In this light, i will like to say, when a woman becomes of that age and standard confidence by passing through enlightening education, she from that moment is ripe for leadership.

I think the most important thing is to watch the women in the political work force right now and emulate their actions. These people may include Sotomayor, Hillary Clinton, etc. by watching these powerful women in politics, we can emulate them and look up to them as role models and ultimately hope to change the world like they have.

The first step, the government must take initiatives to make a policy of inclusiveness of women in every decision making process in the top echelons.Eg the Kenyan constitution stipulates that for any vacant post to be filled in the government,a third must be allocated to women.A case to note is the recent appointment of a supreme court. Two women now seat in this very powerful court in the land.
Another significant area is the human rights.More rights should be granted to the woman eg the right to education.
If this is done, more women will be empowered academically, socially, economically and politically.

weman today are capable of doing a mans job so as being a politician and a country's leader, gone are the days when weman use to be seen as a minor pgenders in the society and whose place was in the kitchen doing household work..today in the history of the world we have seen great weman coming out charismatic and taking the world by surprise compenting with men in political platformes bravely and others gaining the confidence of thier public and voted in as presidents on thier nations leaving out man..it clearly shows how gender equality has massively taken over the world...angelic

I do concur Esther, woman empowerment should start right at the grass roots for it to thrive and be fully entrenched in our systems (Legislature,Judiciary,Executive)
